How'd McAuley go?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure I'm not the only person interested to know how McAuley handled the game last night (Alex, I'm looking at you). :P

How do people think he managed last night? I did tune into the commentary last night in time to hear him make a vital block/interception...

Do you think he's capable enough to replace Kisnorbo in the event that his appeal is turned down?

Answers in a forum topic please. :D

He started of slowly, (as he did against Macclesfield) gettin ripped to bits in the first 30 seconds proves this, but as the game went on he grew in confidence, although he isn't very fast he has a good positional sense, a good backup defender for Kisnorbo and McCarthy.

Well based on what I heard about him last night, he seems a more than suitable understudy for Paddy K if his appeal is unsuccessful. Whether he'd be able to handle it in the league we play in (which there should be no problems with really lol) I'm not sure, but his performance yesterday was certainly encouraging and merits praise, especially the stuff lwicd and Alex give him. However, I'm not too sure he'd start for us in the league - I feel either Stearman or Kenton will start ahead of him still :)

He was ok but made the same fundamental error twice, by steering a defensive clearance straight into the path of an attacking opponent. The second time, if i remember correctly led to the penalty, with first Kisnorbo trying to retrieve the ball and being fouled in the process and then Logan bringing the guy down.

That's not to have a go at him because, as is usual there were mistakes being made all over the pitch.

Didn't have an exactly awe-inspiring game against a lower division outfit, so difficult to judge what he'd be like against Championship teams to be honest.

In some ways he looks capable of being a better footballer than our usual pair but he's not the fastest, looks a bit match rusty and I wouldn't say he's the greatest winner of headers considering he's quite a big lad.

City's defenders seemed a little indecisive all round apart from Stearman inasmuch as there was uncertainty about who should go for what which caused problems on two or three occasions.

I don't think there's much to choose between the options but would probably go for Nils, depending on the sort of opponents Colchester are likely to have at centre-forward. I saw Kenton at centre-back against Sociedad and was not impressed but if Colchester are quick I might be tempted to play Stearman and have Kenton/Maybury at right back.

Hopefully Kisnorbo will get some justice and won't be suspended so the decision won't be necessary but somehow I doubt it. One game suspension I'd imagine.

Are you sure after how he's been ripped apart by quicker players so far this season??

I too hope Paddy K gets his ban overturned, but if he has raised his hands, he should just accept his ban without appeal, as he deserves it.

No I'm not sure. But I am sure Stearman's faster than McAuley, that Kentonlooked shaky at centre-back and that Nils is vulnerable on the turn against pace. You now know exactly why I'd like Kisnorbo to escape a ban but I'm not at all hopeful.

Yeah Stearman is probably our fastest option for the centre-back role, but I'm still a little unsure whether it'd be wise to play him there on current form. I know you said Kenton looks shaky there, but I'd go with him as he has been better than both Stearman and Nils this season so far. If it looks as though Kents is having trouble, then get him dropping off their centre-forward :unsure:

Paddy K is pretty well certain to be suspended by the FA if he has raised his arms, so we're gona have to do without I guess :(

I wouldn't be surprised to see either Nils or Kenton in the centre with Stearman or Maybury coming in to fill the full back void. Nils as a centre half is excellent in this division, he just rarely plays there.
