Wolves appoint Hoddle

Glenn Hoddle has been unveiled as the new Wolves manager.

The ex-England coach has been given a six-month contract to succeed Dave Jones, who was sacked after the club's poor start to the season.

Wolves chairman Rick Hayward said: "We're delighted Glenn has come. He has a six-month contract so we can test each other out and see if it works."

Hoddle, who will work alongside Stuart Gray, has been out of the game since he was sacked by Spurs in 2003.

Hoddle began his managerial career as player-boss with Swindon before moving on to Chelsea and then taking up the England job.

His spell in charge of the national side came to an end after the 1998 World Cup when he made controversial remarks about the disabled in a newspaper interview.

The 47-year-old later returned to management with Southampton, where he again succeeded Jones - as he has now done at Wolves.

He engineered an upturn in Saints' fortunes before being lured to White Hart Lane by Tottenham - the club where he made his name as a player.

That relationship turned sour at the start of the last campaign and he left the London club early last season.

Since then he has applied unsuccessfully for the post of France manager and had also been linked with a return to Southampton.

Wolves are currently 17th in the Championship and have a home game against Millwall on Tuesday.

Six month contract until the end of the season eh! Does anybody think that Wolves might be hedging their bets just to see if Harry Redknapp might be bored in the summer after a nice 6 month break. <_<

Just been speaking to my Wolves supporting housemate about this and we concluded it is probably quite a good move. They have been searching for a long time and it was clear that they were not going to get anyone brilliant, so the idea of getting Hoddle in until the end of the season as a tester is a good idea. He has the potential to be a good manager but if he does let them down, they can easily get rid of him.

Ho ho ho!!!

It's either going to work fantastically, or fail big time! No in-betweens IMO!

 Hasn't he done well everywhere he has been? Good move for Wolves this.

He took Swindon up, good achievement.

Did an average job at Chelsea, although did start the revolution there.

England - He did well I thought, qualified for the World cup in 1998 by finishing top of the group. Then we were unlucky to go out to Argentina in the knock out rounds.

Southampton - Steadied the ship there and was beginning to build a good side.

Spurs - Their fans are a bunch of twats to be fair, too much expectation. Saying that, he spent quite a bit of money and couldn't rise above mid table mediocrity.

He's not done fantastically well in his managerial career, but not as bad as people make out. His main problem is his man management skills - He falls out with too many players.

The fact that he's an arse hole must count against him, surely?

Cost him the England job to be fair.

Still, his managerial record isn't bad and I can see him taking them up the league.

Good appointment for both parties - Hoddle has a point to proves after Spurs, and Wolves won't lose out too much if he doesn't do a good job. They can just get rid of him at the end of the season if he fails.

Hoddle is similar to Graham Souness, both of them haven't really ever done anything amazing as a manager but there are worse out there. It's their reputations that seem to make them out to be better managers than they are, their problem is they both think they are better players than their teams they manage.

I personally wouldn't want either manager, but there's worse out there. He might get some money at Wolves and their team is capable of getting promoted and that would be classed as an achieveent for Hoddle so it's a good deal for both parties. Glad to see they lost last night though :D
