Refunds

In July, T-Mobile took a one year payment for my old mobile phone line (I didn't intend to renew but they didn't think of letting me know before they took the money).

I immediately cancelled my contract and they said I would get a refund a month later (ie August, I guess).

As I was on holiday at the end of August/beginning of Sept, I only enquired when I got back.

I was told the money would be with me within 14 days. Not seeing the money in my account yet, yesterday I enquired again and finally today I was told that the payment was processed yesterday (9th October) and that they will not pay interest on the late refund.

Why is that that we (customers) always have to pay interest/penalties for late payments, but big companies can take money from you, refund it late and simply gain two months' interest on said amount? :(

Can anyone suggest a suitable complaint forum?

Thanks!

If it's a complaint forum you're after, I recommend FoxesTalk's own Leicester City forum. ;)

Seriously, your only route would be back through T-mobile's complaints department themselves. I doubt you'd get anywhere through any kind of consumer watchdog or whatever.

First of all the network involved with threat of getting Offcom/Oftel (whoever it is) involved.

Then Offcom/Offtel (whoever it is).

Office of Fair Trading?

I'm going down a similar route at the moment with a couple of companies (not a mobile phone network though)

You are fully entitled to claim for interest on the sum owed, plus legitimate expenses for getting your money refunded.

Write a clear letter asking for a total amount (including interest) to be repaid within seven working days. Include your contact details in case they with to talk to you or write back.

At the end of that period, if nothing has happened, send a further letter stating that you will now:

  • be putting the matter into the hands of your solicitor (and charging the costs to them) OR
  • be taking the matter to small claims court

In addition, you may wish to inform them that you will be contacting consumer watchdog programs in the media regarding this matter.

Hope you find success.
