Stevosevic Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1236978,00.html the article says it is unlikely to be. terrible incident.
lookwhaticando Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 I'd be very surprised if it was. :pinch:
Ultra Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 Seems like a tragic accident, but any crash like this is going to bring back memories of 9/11, especially in New York..

Hence they're so keen to get the message out that there's no apparent link to terrorism. Can't seem to see if there's any injuries/casualties yet... I'm assuming the pilot's dead. What's funny/stupid about it is, there's conflicting reports from different networks over here. CNN says it's confirmed as a fixed wing aicraft, while CBS are claiming it's confirmed as a Helicopter. The FAA says fixed-wing, so that's what I'm going on.

News agencies will have a field day, and specualte to gain viewers!! Let's hope there are no casualties and hope it's not a terror attack!!

nhfox Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 It appears that it was a New York Yankees pitcher who was piloting the plane. He got his pilot's license a year ago.
lookwhaticando Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 Terrible loss, of life, my condolences go to family members etc!!! Two people have been confirmed dead. One is to logically assume the pilot was one of the dead. Tragic loss for all involved.
cisono Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 I notice lots of dark smoke on that picture.... was there lots of damage from such a small plane?
lookwhaticando Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 I notice lots of dark smoke on that picture.... was there lots of damage from such a small plane? It's done a lot of damage indeed. Partly impact damage, but most would be fire damage one is to assume - kerosene fires burn wildly, and he would have had quite a bit of the stuff onboard too since he probably wasn't in the air all that long.

I was just thinking of all those who claim the Twin Towers were demolished from the inside rather than flattened by the plane crashes. Their argument is normally that the plane crashes would not cause that much damage...
The People's Hero Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 It's a pretty insensitive thing to say at this point, especially as it looks unlikely its a terrorist attack but it really does make you appreciate the value of having terrorism cover in place.

To rebuild the building? Not many insurers offer terrorism cover though
The People's Hero Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 To rebuild the building? Not many insurers offer terrorism cover though Yes. Very true... that's where I come in!
cisono Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 Yes. Very true... that's where I come in! Thought you might say that. Let me know if you would like a place in my signature
Samu Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 Just found out about this all, it's been an awful week for sports stars dying. The New York Yankees pitcher Corey Lidle, who's only been playing for the Yankees for a short while has died. It's such a terrible tragedy.
The People's Hero Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 There does seem to be a lot of tragedy these days.
Foxello Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Dont know anything about baseball but i would like to pay my respects to Corey Lidle. Always awful when sport stars die especially when their still playing (Paul Hunter, Marc Foe) RIP Corey Lidle
lcfc_jme Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 Sad story and tragic news. Bad week for sport stars all round really. R.I.P Corey Lidle
Smudge Posted 12 October 2006 Posted 12 October 2006 The plane he was flying was a Cirrus SR 20, my friend has the exact same aircraft; I was flying it just recently. Although only a single engine it is very fast and as a fairly inexperienced pilot myself, I can see how that machine could get out of hand in a hurry. My condlences also go to Cory Lidle and his instructors families.
