Babylon Posted 14 October 2006 Posted 14 October 2006 Where's Babylon's report. There was enough to talk about. Absolutely cracking match. Could have finished 15-5. Watford equalised with the last kick, netting two goals in the last 8 minutes. And we have got a left-back. Joe Mattock is a gem. Played with tight hamstrings today and apart from being totally spent by the end was immense. Spent as much time in the attacking half as the defensive one. Can tackle, support, dribble, cross. And only 16 apparently. A real prospect. If I were a betting man I'd say Sheehan has no chance. And that's not just my opinion. Another guy I spoke to - and I've never met anyone who's view on football so mirrored my own - reckons he's already better than Sheehan and I agree. In fact, he gave one of the best performances I've ever seen from an injured player. Odibhambo netted again and Max Gradel not only netted a cracker for what should have been the winner but he worked his socks off and caused all sorts of trouble. Andy King and Odihambo both might have had hat-tricks, Joe Magunda scored the first goal I've ever seen him score (and was he happy), Billy McKay should have had one or two but altogether it was non-stop entertainment and, make no mistake, although outclassed in other areas, Watford were dangerous in attack particularly their England youth International number 12 who netted twice. I never said i'd be making one!!!!
Thracian Posted 14 October 2006 Posted 14 October 2006 I never said i'd be making one!!!! Pity. I was genuinely looking forward to it. Did you go?

Apparently the Watford number 12 is still old enough to play for the under 16s. Don't know who he is but took the third goal well. I missed the first two goals of the game but Gradel's was very well taken and didn't hear so much mouth from him. Should've won easily. Had a couple disallowed during the first half which resulted in Beaglehole being sent to the stands (top of the hill) by the ref for complaining. Mattock had a very good game. Sure I heard him complain about a stitch first half but he kept bombing on regardless. Good communicator considering he's one of, if not the youngest in the starting line-up. As I've mentioned before, I think he's already trained with the first team before now so people know his potential plus my friend who knows him said that he'd been approached by Chelsea at some point. Don't know how easy it would be for another club to snap him up from under our noses. With the buying power of Chelsea probably very easy.

Joe Magunda netted the first from close range 5- and it looked like his first of the season judging by his ecstatic celebration. Their impressive number 9 equalised with a cracker and Watford might even have taken the lead but for a spectacular block by Scott Lycett which was bravery personified. Ryan Beswick, Billy McKay twice and Gradel twice went close for Leicester before Andy King missed an easy headed chance, put two more efforts wide and had what looked like a perfectly good goal disallowed in a flurry of activity. Finally soon after half-time Scott Lycett set up an easy chance for Odihambo to make it 2-1, McKay, Beswick (three times) and Odihambo were next to squander or have chances saved but finally Gradel smashed in Leicester's third goal from the edge of the box and the game looked won. Leicester did fade in the last 10 minutes but the two Watford goals, by their England representative number 12, were quality although Leicester would have felt desperately unfortunate to concede the draw with the very last kick. Ratings: Carl Pentley 6 (Little to do apart from pick the ball out of the net, and that wasn't his fault). Joe Magunda 6.5 (Important goal but exposed at times. Becoming quite assertive though) Scott Lycett 6.5 (Brave defending, capable of going forward, always determinedly involved) Scott Garner 6 (Has helped solidify the Leicester defence but faded towards the end) Joe Mattock 7 (Outstanding considering his injury. Genuinely capable left-back) Max Gradel 8 (Great goal, always a threat. Tried hard to help in non-attacking situations). Andy King 7.5 (Could have scored four, one disallowed through no fault of his. Always involved) Tom Tejan-Sie 7 (Leicester always seem to create so much with King/Tejan-Sie in midfield and they could have netted 10 or more yet again) Ryan Beswick 7 (Some great crosses first half. Unfortunate not to score) Billy McKay 7 (Tieless and skillful. Not his best day as a marksman) Eric Odihambo 7.5 (Another goal, often a threat)
lildave3 Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 Shouldn't Mattock have been suspended? And how did Chambers play when he came on?
Thracian Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 Shouldn't Mattock have been suspended? And how did Chambers play when he came on? I think he's suspended for the next game. Chambers was inconsequential really. I cannot remember him having any particular chances and there was a definite trailing off in the last 10 minutes when all the home players were feeling the effects of their efforts.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 Shouldn't Mattock have been suspended? And how did Chambers play when he came on? If we still had a reserve team we could promote either Odhiambo or Mckay to that level and Chambers would be able to get some game time for the under 18s. At the moment he's coming on for 10 minutes and struggling to get involved and used to the tempo. It's the same with some of the other first year scholars who would probably be starting for the under 18s if a reserve team was still available. Lycett would be a regular leaving a gap at the back for Rowe-Turner who I think is a centre back.

But are there any signs the club's doing anything about it. Or even any acknowledgement that they're aware of the problem or even recognise it as a problem? In our situation it's a form of professional suicide. I doubt we've ever been stronger in depth at youth level and yet we're operating at half throttle.

Reserve games obviously cost them money, so not playing has enabled them to pay to have all those large plants on display outside the main entrance. A much more effective use of the money don't you think? All that corporate dosh flowing in from punters as their breath is taken away by the majesty of them.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 15 October 2006 Posted 15 October 2006 Aswell as Tuttle coming in for King. Well Tuttle's not even been on the bench for the last couple of games at least so a reserve team would at least get him a place on the under 18 bench you'd think.
