Daggers Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 ...taking someones photograph in a public place or a private place (not a residence). Do I need permission, who holds copyright and are they allowed to punch me?

I do know trying to take photos of people when on their own property may be a trespass. Depending on circumstances.
Daggers Posted 6 November 2006 Author Posted 6 November 2006 I do know trying to take photos of people when on their own property may be a trespass. Depending on circumstances. That's my project based around shower-shots out then Nah, I want to do spectators at sporting events.
Suffolk_fox Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 Should be no problem - you can always ask them out of courtesy
davieG Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 Should be no problem - you can always ask them out of courtesy A bit difficult if it's a shot of a large crowd ( nearly said the West Stand )
Jon the Hat Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 That's my project based around shower-shots out then Nah, I want to do spectators at sporting events. You may find in the terms and conditions of most tickets, that by attending the event you allow the organisers the right to sell your image. Hence you would need their permission, not that of the individuals in question.
The People's Hero Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 Can of worms. Just do your own disclaimer claiming that the entire thing is fictional and staged and any likeness to any person living or dead is entirely coincedental yadda yadda fu ck off you wan kers yadda yadda bum.
lookwhaticando Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 I think the main legal problem lies when you take images of one or two people and publish them without their permission. At university here in Ottawa, some girls were going around taking photos of individual people for one reason or another, and they had copies of some form that allows them to legally take your photo. The photographed must fill in the form with a few basic details and sign it. However, when it came to photographing a larger crowd (30 to 50 people standing around, none of them really knowing a photo was being taken, all facing different directions) there was apparently no need for such forms to be filled in and signed by the photographed. Photographing a large crowd shouldn't really be an issue - it's when you photograph a small number of people close up, showing their faces clearly that can be a problem.
Daggers Posted 6 November 2006 Author Posted 6 November 2006 Maybe if I got me one of those hides that bird fanciers use...pop it up outside the club shop and pop my lens out...

Especially when the official photographers do their best to get you into the shots, no matter how many times you ask them not to bother (or try to hide)
lcfcalan Posted 6 November 2006 Posted 6 November 2006 ...taking someones photograph in a public place or a private place (not a residence). Do I need permission, who holds copyright and are they allowed to punch me? It would seem not too many replies with regard the 'punching' part of the question, so I will hazzard a guess . Yes , (if you give them permission). No , ( if it means youget your shower pics published) I hope this is more clear now.
Guest Posted 7 November 2006 Posted 7 November 2006 Apparently noone owns copyright of their own image, and it can be published as long as any commentary that goes along with the picture is not libellous.
Daggers Posted 7 November 2006 Author Posted 7 November 2006 So I'd not be able to write anything next to this picture then?
lookwhaticando Posted 7 November 2006 Posted 7 November 2006 So I'd not be able to write anything next to this picture then? It's probably for the best.
Guest Posted 7 November 2006 Posted 7 November 2006 So I'd not be able to write anything next to this picture then? As long as it's not defamatory.
