Joe. Posted 10 November 2006 Posted 10 November 2006 "I watched Arsenal in the Champions League the other week playing some of the best football I've ever seen and yet they couldn't have scored in a brothel with two grand in their pockets!"- Now that's so true. I think Holloway is a genius at times- you've gotta love him.
Finnegan Posted 10 November 2006 Posted 10 November 2006 I did a shoot with nothing on the other day for testicular cancer and when some of my daughters' schoolfriends saw me in the paper they thought I was a porn star! Genius.
Daggers Posted 10 November 2006 Posted 10 November 2006 "...thank you very much and let's have a coffee!"
davieG Posted 10 November 2006 Posted 10 November 2006 HollowayLegend. What! Is that a bigger legend than Walsh, Elliott, Taggart, Izzet ? Let's face it he's an average Championship manager who can be funny now and again, hardly makes him a Legend.

I reckon if you can go through life bringing a little bit of joy to those around you then that slams you up there. Holloway is a one man quote machine who brings a bit of life back into the game. I vote legend too.

Agreed, I always picture him as a dimwitted country bumpkin but I suppose that is slightly harsh on the fella.

I vote legend too. I don't see that not having having a sparklng personality has to do with being a legend, Muz is a legend for what he brought to LCFC on the football pitch, if I'd have wanted to pay to see a sparkling personality I'd have gone to Jongleurs or the Demontfort Hall. Bringing a little bit of joy through the power of language/repartee to those around you seems to me to make you either a very good friend, if you know them personally or a comedian. I hardly think he's up their with the greats of the comedy world, but as that's a taste thing maybe for you he is. I still vote no legend

Ultra Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 Comedy legend, perhaps. Football legend? No way..
Thracian Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 Agreed, I always picture him as a dimwitted country bumpkin but I suppose that is slightly harsh on the fella. Pity he wasn't showing all this attacking enterprise at QPR when he was linked to our job. At least some of em learn in the end.
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 Pity he wasn't showing all this attacking enterprise at QPR when he was linked to our job. At least some of em learn in the end. He didn't have the players you plank, as I keep telling you, you can't play attacking football without the required players.
Thracian Posted 11 November 2006 Posted 11 November 2006 He didn't have the players you plank, as I keep telling you, you can't play attacking football without the required players. How long was he there by the time he was applying for our job?. It's just the same at City really. If a manager spends his summer getting defensive or nothing players like Kenton, Johnson, McCauley (despite being a relative success) and Low, whose fault is it if he finds himself short of decent attackers? Attacker Gradel got sent off for the Academy a week ago. He'll doubtless be getting hammered by the management. But £ to a penny part of that, and other incidents was due to his utter frustration. Not because he should be getting into a Championship team just yet. But because he knows he can do better than what's being served up from our right flank just now and doesn't even get a place on the bench. Instead he goes from regular Reserve team player back into a youth League. Kelly balances his team 7-4 in favour of defence because, for whatever reason, he chooses not to play anyone from Porter, Gradel, King, Dodds or a three man attack of Hammond, Fryatt, Hume. No other reason. My response has been the only one I can take. I'm staying away from the matches until Kelly stops insulting the paying public and shows some commitment, away as well as at home, to trying to play proper football with a balanced team for the 90 minutes per match the team is paid for. That doesn't mean a line of four defensive midfield player EVER. Nor a pair of static full-backs.

How to turn a thread about Ian Holloway (or alternatively anything) into one about the lack of opportunity given to youngsters in the club in 10 posts.
