Bloomer Posted 23 November 2006 Posted 23 November 2006 Rob Kelly is a fine chap, probably a reasonable coach too. But he has proven nothing thus far, I see little evidence that he could take us forward to the level we all want and at the pace acceptable to many. (me not included). I think he has been terribly contstrained by our situation so he has not really had the the opportunity to show anything other than he can just about keep our heads above water without spending any money. An admirable achievement, but is it enough to suggest he can lead us back to the Prem and keep us there? Money won't do it on its own. I like him, I really do, but is he the right man - dunno? I do think that Mandric is terribly hands on and will want a big say in all things LCFC, this may include having his own man at the helm, Rob may be too decent for him. Who knows?
Thracian Posted 23 November 2006 Author Posted 23 November 2006 How on earth can some of u say RK shouldn't be allowed to spend any cash that MAY be coming our way? on what possible evidence can you base this??? as he hasnt had the opportunity to spend a single penny he is neither capable nor incapable simply UNPROVEN That's not quite true really. We pay wages for his signings. Quite reasonable ones I imagine. And they've not been convincing. Two of the five have been awful, one less than fully fit and Kenton hardly the priority we required. If that's his performance in picking up freebies - a 50% success rate at best yet none of them having especial impact on our way forward - then it is understandabe people would have concerns. Cos were he to waste half of £5m and still not solve our problems it can have serious consequences. As we know from the past when vastly more than that was wasted.

Hugely irrelevant, but it struck me it might be important. I think most of us from the "Don't give Rob the purse" camp consider his signings so far to be disappointing at best. I'd like a proven wheeler dealer to bring in value for money players - you are exactly right, Kelly is unproven at doing this...if he wants to learn by making mistakes then I'd rather he do it somewhere else.

Steve Cotterill is a proven wheeler and dealer. Steve Jones from Crewe on a free transfer compared to our Andy Johnson on a free transfer this summer. One tore us to pieces earlier this season, one also tore us to pieces all season due to his inept passing leading to the opposition having a field day.
Daggers Posted 23 November 2006 Posted 23 November 2006 Exactly, Rik... Now let's be honest - does anyone think that Kelly would have been given the job if we'd had money? Kelly was a man for a job and that job was 'making do'. He stuck to it and managed not to get us relegated. Applause, nods and pats on the back all round! But, as I said about the board, when your job is done it is time to move on. They managed us on a strict financial budget until we could find someone to invest (gamble) money on improving the team. Kelly's job is done, he was never employed to take us to the Premiership, to mount a challenge on European qualification. He has had his first managerial role, he didn't **** up and he gets to go to interviews with excellent references. Just my opinion.

Our board weren't actually that eager to give Kelly the job straight the way were they? And considering our financial state, they were willing to pay compensation for the likes of Cotterill, Davies or Newell and none of them would have come cheap. They decided on Kelly after his impressive start, but they were willing to find the money from somewhere to get the right man in. They just thought they could save a few quid once Kelly showed he might be able to cut it. Mandaric won't be enthralled by Kelly, he'll probably not rock the boat straight the way but i'd doubt it if Kelly survived much longer than May.
ibbosuk Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 He has brought in two good players, and two bad players, so if he was to spend the money, i think it could go either way.You can't say you can't trust him with money because he has never had any. Give the guy a chance. 50% failer rate on transfer's, (by your own words) that might be ok at chelsea, but not here, KELLY'S GOT TO GET THE BOOT, come mid December Mandaric will do the deed. I fancy Mandaric to temp Curbishley with a few £Â£Ã‚£'S.

Countless times this season we haven't had the bottle go out an win games that we are capable of and its down to negative tactics.
