lookwhaticando Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 I prefer to just press "view new posts" to keep up with whats going on around here.. Oooh Yeah, I can see how inconvenience would be caused by a lack of search engine capabilities. I think bit by bit we're losing a few small features of the forum just to keep ahead of the demand for system resources placed upon the server by the FoxesTalk massiv' First went things like "Who's viewing this thread", now the search engine goes offline for days at a time. It's a sad state of affairs, but it just goes to show you how popular the mighty Leicester City must be if the website is overloaded even when we lose...
Janx Posted 5 December 2006 Author Posted 5 December 2006 Not sure what you're laughing at nanook of the north, but maybe its cos, it costs more....? OR Pet Rescue might have left it off and gone on holiday??
lookwhaticando Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 The problem is, at the peak periods of usage (away match days are amongst the busiest) there's far too much demand on the server and it just keels over and dies. That's why the search engine was turned off during match days recently, to try limit the damage. You do have a point though, a server with more impressive capabilities would cost more. Makes you wonder whether there ought to be a donation drive to help afford it... PS: My laughter was aimed at how popular we are in defeat.

lookwhaticando Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 Where is the championship fantasy league thing gone??? I've looked and I can't find it, I would search for it but... I just googled 'foxestalk championship fantasy' and turned up a thread called: Championship Fantasy League created November 2006.
Libertine Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 The search engine is pretty legendary. Get it back. Now. Please, if you don't mind.
dandannieldanok Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 I just googled 'foxestalk championship fantasy' and turned up a thread called: Championship Fantasy League created March 2006. March!?!?
lookwhaticando Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 March!?!? Wow. Ignore me, god knows how I misread that.
cisono Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 Last time I used the search engine, it found all the irrelevant threads (based on not sure what) but not the one I was looking for...
cisono Posted 5 December 2006 Posted 5 December 2006 Bring it back! Back but with a better search function!!!

Rincewind Posted 6 December 2006 Posted 6 December 2006 I need to do a search for a person. Unfortunately his tel no. is on the mobiles that were pinched. Another minus is that his name is Smith, All I know is he hjas a loughborough number. Tried googling and came up with some but dont like ringing them. Just wondering if the numbers that come up online are the same in the tel book. What I mean do you have to give permission or enter your number into the directory online? Does that make sense? I could test and try for mine but I'm not in the book anyway.

Rincewind Posted 6 December 2006 Posted 6 December 2006 true. mine is not listed but found my brothers. About 4 or 5 came up of the name that I want with a couple of possibilities. not as bad as ringing a dozen numbers. I just put uk telephone directory into google. The five was the first page. edit Theres about 30 all together if i put his initial. Edit 2 Found his number. Had it written down on some paper. Glad I never shredded it. Apparently his phone is in his GF name so that list would have been no good.
lookwhaticando Posted 7 December 2006 Posted 7 December 2006 I notice the detailed statistics page is the latest victim of resource constraints.
Mark Posted 7 December 2006 Posted 7 December 2006 I notice the detailed statistics page is the latest victim of resource constraints. It's not. I attempted upgrading the forums tonight but it failed so I've had to reupload the previous unedited version of the forum. Statistics will be back, when I've got some time. I have to get some sleep now
lookwhaticando Posted 7 December 2006 Posted 7 December 2006 It's not. I attempted upgrading the forums tonight but it failed so I've had to reupload the previous unedited version of the forum. Statistics will be back, when I've got some time. I have to get some sleep now Cheers for setting me straight. I suspected one of the admins was making modifications to the forums when one of the php files 'failed' (according to the error message). When the statistics disappeared, I feared the worst. Sleep well.
ThurmastonFox Posted 8 December 2006 Posted 8 December 2006 Still looks like the arcade has gone, even my previous post about the arcade going has gone!!!!
lookwhaticando Posted 8 December 2006 Posted 8 December 2006 Still looks like the arcade has gone, even my previous post about the arcade going has gone!!!! The Arcade would doubtless have been fixed upon successful upgrade of the forum software. As Mark has kindly indicated elsewhere, the upgrade did not go according to plan - so it has yet to be fixed and yesterday's posts were lost.
