Leicester's 12th Man Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham could be scuppered by Real Madrid in the race to sign up Southampton star Gareth Bale. (Mirror) Discuss.
JoeyB Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 it would be really silly if he went to spain imho. i dont think he would be able to live up to his rep personnaly i think he would be best going to utd because sir alex is the manager who i think would be able to bring the best out of him
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 He should stay where he is for a few years, or sign for Fulham/Spurs someone like that. He goes to a big European club he will be sat on the bench.

Well he defo shouldnt go to arsenal he'll have to learn at lest 6 different languages before he can even start yo play well
bold_fox Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 I disagree. I think it would be a great move for the lad. You think about from his perspective. Its such an attractive club, and city. Also, imagine the players he'll be playing with. If i was in his shoe's i'de be out there like a shot !

And he wont be playing will he, he'll be left to rot in the reserves while Roberto Carlos plays every game, he's the first name on the team sheet. He'll have to learn the language, a distraction he doesn't need at his age. He'd just be another Scott Parker/Wayne Bridge/SWP

You have no evidence to back up that he'll fail out there. Also, Carlos is on his last legs, and there was talk of him leaving at the end on the season. My only point was that it would be nice to see what happens if he did go out there. Maybe it could help his game, maybe it wouldnt.

There was talk of this being his last season but he's played absloutley blinding so far this season, by the looks of him at the moment he could play at that level for at least another 2 years. Yes they failed in England, they had no language to learn, no new culture to adapt to, and no dramatic change in the way football is played to deal with. Then there is Cappelo's tatics which wouldn't so a left back such as Gareth Bale, bad bad idea.
Finnegan Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 Allegedly, if he goes to Manchester United he gets to stay at Southampton on loan for the next 18 months. That'd be a pretty interesting, and pretty beneficial move. I'd be much happier to see him in this country. Though it'd be interesting to hear Toshack's opinion on the matter, and how much his opinion would sway Bale. Toshack very big on his players getting first team football - but he's also big on La Liga and Real Madrid.
Joe. Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 He should either stay where is he now or go to a mid table premiership team. The best option for him would to probably go to the mid-table premiership side. That way, he'd be on show every week, probably playing regularly and it would give him the chance to show what he can do in the premiership to the bigger teams' managers. Abroad would be a bad idea.

I don't know if it's still the case but a few years back there weren't that many Tricenarians in Spanish football. Real Madrid, Barcelona and most of the top Italian clubs don't as a rule give contracts to anyone over 30. There are exceptions obviously, but they are few and far between.

Bert Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 Manwell is on the money in this thread. The Man Utd "agreement" seems good for both parties, we all know Bale isn't going to stay at Southampton for his whole career.
Tevez Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 i'd stay at southampton becuase they are regular favourates for the prem (play offs)
Leicester's 12th Man Posted 2 January 2007 Author Posted 2 January 2007 I'd go to Man United, work with Sir Alex for 6 months and then move to a Championship side on a 2 year loan
lildave3 Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 Stay at the Saints for 2/3 more years, then see where they are and who is interested.
Head Honcho Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 look at AC Milans squad, come back and we'll talk. OK with the exception of.................... They are going to need a whole squad soon I can't believe the age of some of them.
