Brainy Posted 28 January 2007 Posted 28 January 2007 Shane Warne & Zinedine Zidane - two legends of sport. Shane Warne, arguably the best Cricket player to play the game. Zinedine Zidane, arguably one of the best to play the game of football in the past decade. However, both may not be remembered for what they did best. February 2003 - prior to the Cricket World Cup, Shane Warne was sent home after a drug test during a one-day series in Australia earlier in the year returned positive. Warne initially claimed that he took only one of what he called a "fluid tablet" – the Prescription drug Modureric. Warne was later found guilty, and was banned for one year. Germany 2006 - Zinedine Zidane made his name by scoring two headed goals, giving his country their first World Cup title. He was named FIFA Player Of The Year in 1998, 2000 and 2003. In 2006, Zinedine Zidane travelled to Germany with his team to try and win back the World Cup trophy they had won 8 years ago. After a slow start, France got stronger and stronger, and found themselves in the Final of the World Cup against Italy. Zidane scored a penalty early on to give France the lead, but Italy equalised, as the match went into Extra-time. In the 110th minute, Zidane was sent off for a headbut on Marco Materazzi in the chest in an off the ball incident. The game went into a penalty shoot-out, and Italy were victorious, winning 5-4. With the two controversies in their careers, which one deserved to be remembered? Do they both deserve to be remembered? Are the two men a disgrace? Thoughts?
Simi Posted 28 January 2007 Posted 28 January 2007 I like this thread. I'm torn at the moment. Both are incredibly gifted and great at what they do. As you say both have had ups and downs. I shall come back with an answer later
JoeyB Posted 28 January 2007 Posted 28 January 2007 schumacer if not zidane for the headbut and all his years of great football
Wils Posted 28 January 2007 Posted 28 January 2007 Good first post Im not completly sure either, both had great careers and very good at what they did. Zidane was a superb footballer and is a role model to a lot of young people, well maybe was until his moment of madness. Warne also a great bowler but both i think should be rememberd for what they were both good at. Zidane edges it for me,probably because im more into Football than Cricket.
lildave3 Posted 28 January 2007 Posted 28 January 2007 Warne just edges it for me. Both though, are awesome sportsmen and deserve to be remembered for all the good things they did, not the bad things.
Jay Posted 28 January 2007 Posted 28 January 2007 all legends have flaws and they are both supreme examples of this!! they should both be remembered as legends in their own field
lcfc_jme Posted 28 January 2007 Posted 28 January 2007 Both should be remembered in all honesty. They were both excellent at what they did, and they did it for a very long time at the highest possible level. They will remain Legends forever and will be talked about for many, many years to come.
C-man Posted 28 January 2007 Posted 28 January 2007 Obviously both have to be remembered. But I think Warney should be remmebered more than Zidane. I don't know why but I have never liked Zidane. Ever.
potter3 Posted 28 January 2007 Posted 28 January 2007 schumacerif not zidane for the headbut and all his years of great football Come again Zidane, just edges it* for me, but both legends *Get it
Geo V Posted 29 January 2007 Posted 29 January 2007 Zidane for me but both shoul dbe remembered! Zidane has done it at the highest level scoring goals in World Cup finals and the Euro`s as well as great goals domestically and in European club football. More importantly, he has done it with grace and elegance and IMO is the best player in world football over the last 20 years at least. Shane Warne is quality but his career is blighted for me by his drugs ban (he only took them to lose weight....go on a diet FFS) and also he was done for match-fixing. Talent no doubt but he isnt the most humble bloke is he??!!
Finnegan Posted 29 January 2007 Posted 29 January 2007 "Should" doesn't really matter, tbh. Zidane will be more globally remembered for the simply reason more people give a shit about football. And with good reason, too. Let's be honest, cricket's a load of toss really isn't it? And at the end of the day, how hard is it to bowl out the England cricket team.

In 2007 I think the Aussie women could give us a close game
