Wils Posted 6 February 2007 Posted 6 February 2007 Not really-too long hours, not enough pay, not enough appreciation-the usual! But the people are ace and the location very handy That sounds very much like my Job. Id go for the new one, change is good :thumbup :
James. Posted 6 February 2007 Posted 6 February 2007 Get out the comfort zone and take a risk. Go for it.
Dr The Singh Posted 6 February 2007 Posted 6 February 2007 I work 50 miles from home, yes it takes a while getting used to the travel, it does eat ino your personal life and your wallet but you have to balance it with, how much you earn, career prospects and with whats local to you!!!
Lord Nibblington Posted 6 February 2007 Posted 6 February 2007 I work about a good 10 - 15 minute walk from where I live. I've decided that this is too far, and they should move my place of work closer to me. When I suggested it to SMT, it did not go well.
Steven Posted 6 February 2007 Posted 6 February 2007 Nope no travel expenses and no working from home. But potential car share with someone also in the same boat. I can't move for a while as I used up all my savings buying my current place less than a year ago. Is an hour and 20 too far? Will it cost me shed loads in petrol? Oh yeah, and I'd need to buy a new car-probably a diesel I would say that is on the limit and the tip about a comfy car is a good one.
Tomassi Posted 6 February 2007 Posted 6 February 2007 Talking from personal experience i'd say go for it! You might need to get a comfy car though. Ive got a Focus and im as fresh as a daisy after a 6 hour drive. Besides what you got to lose apart from a little personal time? it balances out with a hike in pay, then you can do more at the end of the day you get one life, grasp every exciting opportunity whilst you can
PompeyFox Posted 6 February 2007 Posted 6 February 2007 I do shop refits for Addidas in jjb shops all round the country. For the last 14 days i have been travelling to Winchester, which is 318 miles round trip everyday. It is cheaper to pay for diesel than get digs down their. Cost of diesel is roughly £30 a day. I would consider what you want out of life, money, lesuire time? My mum allways told me to go for the money while age is still on your side. Do it for a few years and get some collateral built up, then view your options in a few years time.........kev
cisono Posted 6 February 2007 Posted 6 February 2007 I used to work in Milton Keynes... about 55miles, most of which on the M1. The driving simply was not fun I forgot to mention... after two years, the work also turned into a nightmare. So overall, I am happy I'm not driving there anymore. (Miss the salary though!!! )
Foxed Posted 7 February 2007 Author Posted 7 February 2007 Besides what you got to lose apart from a little personal time? it balances out with a hike in pay, then you can do more I've worked it out and I'm normally still in work at 6.30/7pm (unpaid overtime) so finishing at 5.30pm with an hours drive isn't losing any personal time-I get to chill out in my car to Scott Mills. With my hefty new payrise I will be mostly buying a new car! So to vere off topic as per usual-what are the comfy-est cars for commuting in? Must be a diesel of course. Can't have a Focus as t'other half has one and I refuse to be a 2 Ford Focus car household! Suburbia won't get the better of me yet!
