Leicfox Posted 15 February 2007 Posted 15 February 2007 Radiohead - The Bends Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
Mark Posted 16 February 2007 Posted 16 February 2007 Just listening to Anberlin - Cities for the first time which reminded me of this thread. I've been impressed with every song so far, it's been a long time since I've felt like that about an album on first listen.
James. Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Wow, not heard of Blackalicious - are they like Morcheeba ??? Buena Vista Social Club ?? - is that Ry Cooder's band??? I guess Blackalicious are similar to Jurassic 5 (who are unbelievably good for anyone who doesn't know them - even if you don't like hip hop you must see them if you get a chance - live they are on a different planet). But yeah Blackalicious are funky, happy hip hop. Great "frontman" by the name of Gift of the Gab (some of the funniest, most imaginative live freestyling I've ever seen!) and their second album Blazing Arrow is one of my favourite hip hop albums. They did some collaborations with Shadow called Soulsides - check that out too. As for Buena Vista I'm not sure mate but their album is fantastic - pure Cuban. Best served in the summer! And Fez The Roots' Things Fall Apart probably ranks as the best hip hop album I own. Great stuff. LLF by the way just bought Miles Davis's album you recommended (used to play the trumpet so hoping it might make me pick it up again!)

Buena Vista, just checked is Ry Cooder's band when you mention Cuban music !! Will have to listen to Blackalicious if like Jurassic 5 (also love rap like Roots Manuva, Herbaliser) Is that DJ Shadow they've done some collaborations with.... wow !!! Excellent album first time round also HAS TO BE:- Chris Isaak - Wicked Game : Each tune is unique and some may think it's a 'girlie' album (no disrespect ladies), but it's all unique and raw music !!!
Finnegan Posted 20 February 2007 Posted 20 February 2007 Guitar Wolf - Jet Generation. The most painfully cool album ever written. I'm serious.
