lookwhaticando Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 I can't see the point of Manderic changing it...it'll always be the Walkers to me......like Filbo will always be Filbo to the 'old guard' It doesn't matter what the fans call it themselves, it matters to potential sponsors what the name of the stadium is. If someone like the Royal Bank of Scotland offered 5 million quid for the naming rights on the stadium, Mandaric will say "thanks very much" and present the stadium as the RBS Stadium. Officially that'll be the name of the stadium, and RBS will have paid the club 5m quid for the privilege. Whether the fans continue to call it the Walkers stadium or not is irrelevant - because everyone else will call it the RBS Stadium. All newspaper articles, all TV programs covering sport, club information profiles will refer to it as the RBS Stadium - and that's what a firm like RBS is paying for. Every time someone mentions the club, they mention the banks' name too. That's the point of Mandaric changing it - money for old rope, really. He needs to increase revenue to make the club sustainable - especially as a promotion push won't come cheap. Extracting a few more millions from a sponsor of the stadium is the perfect way to get the ball rolling.
Webbo Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 if he does make any money out of changing the name i hope he uses it to reduce the debt.that money only comes around every 10 years. £1/£3million can be blown on 1 player who could turn out crap.

Premiership cash is what will pay off the debt, if we get there. Additional revenue in the near term will surely be used to facilitate such a possibility - i.e. be spent on the playing squad, one way or another.
Guest Gist Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Filbert Way. Its short and sweet. I'd like that name if it was to change
day breaks but night falls Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Milans Moneybox? Milans wallet? The Canalside arena The treasure chest? The pleasure chest? The Chocolate box (yes i know its boca juniors name but the world can cope with two choco boxes surely!) I know, further down the list you go, the worse it gets.

Bryn Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 I'd prefer to keep Walkers and A+L involved with the club. I like having solid local connections with the club. Plus I think the A+L sponsorship of the shirts looks good. Fuzzy logic there, I know. A&L Stadium doesn't have a great ring to it at all. So people would probably just call it Filbert Way anyway. But so long as the ground is named after something local or local-sounding, I don't mind at all. If it goes to a poll of the fans, we've a clear winner already. Somehow, though, I think Mandaric won't dump the idea of stadium sponsorship. It's a useful stream of revenue he can look into. However, if we're going to continue to sponsor out the stadium name, I hope we secure a cushy long-term deal... I don't fancy a 3 year deal which could see us changing stadium name every few years. Think that'd be good to be honest, then the fans would just say Filbert Way or Freeman's Wharf, regardless of what the official name is, cause they wouldn't wanna keep saying something different.
Mort Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Would there be anyway of combining a local name like "Filbert Way" or "Freeman's Wharf" with a sponsor's name... say "Freeman's Wharf - Walkers Stadium"... it sounds rough but might there not be a way of doing somthing like that?
He's not bald Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 Which would also be fine. So long as we can incorporate something LCFC ish into the name.... The A&L Filbert Stadium? Ugh The A&L stadium doesnt have a great ring to it though does it! I really believe that Filbert should be included in the name, companies and sponsors come and go but Filbert will always be associated with LCFC so it makes sense...to me at least!
potter3 Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 can't it just be something like "Freemans Wharf (sponsored by Walkers Crisps)" or something like that?
cisono Posted 19 February 2007 Posted 19 February 2007 theres been some talk now about the walkers being re named. any ideas for a new name?? The Mandaric?
