Manwell Pablo Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 theres been some talk now about the walkers being re named. any ideas for a new name?? No there hasn't we have somethiing like a 10 year deal with Walkers so the name of the stadium wont be changed any time soon.
City Lad Posted 18 February 2007 Author Posted 18 February 2007 No there hasn't we have somethiing like a 10 year deal with Walkers so the name of the stadium wont be changed any time soon. i dont have a quote but Milan was asked about the stadium naming and he said that he was looking at all options open to him. people around me in the alliance and leicester stand wer talking about it before the CovScum match.
Lets Be having You Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 No there hasn't we have somethiing like a 10 year deal with Walkers so the name of the stadium wont be changed any time soon. Err That may change Now MM is in the hot seat, he could buy out the contract and we could get new sponsors in fact i understand he has made a stement about that to the press i may be wrong.
JoeyB Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 Joeb arena ? new filbert street ? just a suggestion

I heard that Milan was talking to them about buying out the deal. EG if we gave them back the money they paid in full, then sold the rights for £5m then we would still be up £3.5M... Worth a go.

If were him I'd be more concearned about buying the stadium back not renaming it,
The Stig Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 Wasnt the jjb arena once mentioned if that happened i would shoot myself, plus its unlikely as i dont think we ware with jjb next year
Mort Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 Stella Artois Stadium ...I like [Mort to assembeled friends and/or coworkers on a cold Friday night] "Anyone fancy going down "the Stella" tommorow? ...works like a charm, seamless...
Bluefoxtim Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 The Library. Bert...that is once again FANTASTIC
Jon the Hat Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 If were him I'd be more concearned about buying the stadium back not renaming it, Yep, well £3.5M is a nice big chunk of cash to start the process.
Webbo Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 Yep, well £3.5M is a nice big chunk of cash to start the process. assuming someone else wants to pay £5million for the naming rights.
Flynny Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 Me and Leonisco have a running joke about us being so poor that we have to take money from Gary Glitter as he launches as UK comeback. "The Gary Glitter Stadium" would be pretty cool, in a not-cool-at-all way.
Phlashman Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 It could be a PR stunt on MM's part. If the name was sold for as little as some say then buying it out and renaming it even something without a sponsors name in it could be good PR for MM.
Snik-Snok Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 It should revert to Freemen's Wharf. That's the name of the land the ground was built on. It's unique and sounds good. I'm fed up of every ground being called '[insert name here] stadium'.
davieG Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 It was £1.5 mill for ten years, we've still got 5 1/2 years or so to go. MM only said he was talking to Walkers about it, nothing was said or intimated that he was going elsewhere. A&L offered more at the time but in instalments, the pre-admin board took the Walker's shilling up front to try and stave of administration, which nearly worked until Wise and his agent pissed all over us in a spate of revenge.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 It should revert to Freemen's Wharf. That's the name of the land the ground was built on. It's unique and sounds good. I'm fed up of every ground being called '[insert name here] stadium'. It's the future. They have been doing it for years in America. If someone wants to pay £Xmillion to name the stadium, why not? The trick is to do it with a new ground and BEFORE it gets a local name. We never called ours anything other than the Walkers Stadium (well, I think it was the Walkers Bowl for a couple of days) so the naming thing has worked well. If you look at Southampton, they built a new stadium and it got called St Marys by everyone, so no-one calls it the Friends Provident Stadium or whatever it is now.
potter3 Posted 18 February 2007 Posted 18 February 2007 Quite a few people refer to it as Filbert Way anyway.
