Mark Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 Akinbiyi continued to reveal that both Sheffield United and Wigan had lodged bids for his services this week.''Two clubs, Sheffield United and Wigan have both placed bids for me this week directly to the club and this has been confirmed to me by the legal agent acting on my behalf,'' he continued. ''Needless to say I had hoped this week that a new contract for Stoke City would be produced but have been told once again to wait for another meeting  this time on Friday now that the chairman is over here.'' Akinbiyi's words are echoed by those of Wigan boss Paul Jewell, who told Sky Sports News that he could be close to making a new signing. ''I'm waiting for the phone to ring,'' conceded Jewell. ''I spoke to a manager last night and he said he'd get back to me with a price.'' Crazy! Always thought Wigan were an ambitious club but they're scraping the barrel here aint they? Akinbiyi in the Premiership again with Wigan?

Guest Daniel Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 I would laugh my head off if he went to Wigan, they'd be going down the league so fast.
MADLEVEIN Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 if he signs soon they might go the slippery slope
Scow Posted 20 January 2005 Posted 20 January 2005 I know there were rumours of either Roberts or Ellington leaving, so that might have a part to play. But even so, Akinbiyi?!? He's only scored 7 goals this season anyway...
gjp Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 I almost fell of my chair laughing. Is that Wigan lad still banned? if he is un-ban him if this comes true, so we can laugh at him
Nathan_Ellington_WAFC Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 this story wouldnt be here if i didnt tell petrescu about it how much did you pay for him again ? also, by the sound of the stoke fans with this news, i'd give him a chance btw, he has the best two strikers in this league in front of him if he does join be good for coming off the bench to change a game

Stoke love him because they're overachieving, 7 goals at this stage of the season is not impressive, and from what i've seen of him this season he still looks poor. Having said that though, i'd love it if he joined you
Nathan_Ellington_WAFC Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 how much did you pay for him again?
Craig Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 how much did you pay for him again? 57017 £5m back in the days when we were in the premiership. Remind me when you were last there...
Nathan_Ellington_WAFC Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 5m? must be decent then we have never been in the premiership, cant believe you didnt know that but look at your club now anyway, still want me to add you on msn ?
Scow Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 5m? must be decent thenwe have never been in the premiership, cant believe you didnt know that but look at your club now anyway, still want me to add you on msn ? 57024 Taylor spent £3 Million on 34 year old Dennis Wise and £2 Million on Trevor Benjamin. Look where the latter is now... So your logic is extremely flawed.
shen Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 I'm just extremely happy Crystal Palace were so naive to pay us 2,2m to get him ...thats got to be the best piece of business we've done in these recent few years!
Ash Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 If Wigan do sign Ade , i assume he would be a backup player anyway's
Anish Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 Shows the ambition that Wigan have got - Akinbiyi would be hopeless in the Premiership.
