Matt Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 West Ham could face disciplinary action from the Premier League for fielding two ineligible players. The Hammers are the subject of an investigation into the registrations of Argentina World Cup stars Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano. Tevez, 23 and Mascherano, 22, joined in August, but their registration with third party Media Sports Investment may have breached regulations. The Premiership strugglers could lose points if they are found guilty. A points deduction would almost certainly condemn West Ham to the Championship as they are already 19th, nine points away from safety. Tevez and Mascherano joined West Ham on 31 August from Brazilian side Corinthians, but the deal was brokered by MSI, who owned the rights to the two players. The Hammers reportedly failed to hand over vital documentation to the Premier League and could be charged under rule U18 concerning the influence of third-party ownership. Mascherano has since left the Upton Park club to move to Liverpool. Breaking News on Sky Sports News is that the Premier League have now charged West Ham.
JoeyB Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 if they get docked points eggy boldy will appeal and say "its was the previous chairman's fault"
Maybes Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 Breaking News on Sky Sports News is that the Premier League have now charged West Ham. Let me guess....a few thousand pounds. They should have points docked!!
Simi Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 Why even bother saying they may get points deducted. We all know they wont. Just a fine if that.
Matt Posted 2 March 2007 Author Posted 2 March 2007 They could even be expelled by the league. There going down anyway though! As everyone else says though, It'll be fine and a slap on the wrists.
London_Fox Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 I remember hearing about AFC Wimbledon who fieled a player that wasn't registered and they were docked all the points they gained while that guy was playing for them. If Tevez and Mascherano are deemed to be the same (not eligible to play under rules) then appropraite punishment seems to be the same no? Clearly not that many points to dock but basically this could end up relegating West Ham. Has to be more then a fine. Other Prem teams are entitled to claim that they should have points docked...surely they will do this, esp those at the bottom.

lookwhaticando Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 Let me guess....a few thousand pounds. They should have points docked!! If the player registrations are faulty, they must be docked points. If they don't, the FA will be accused of going easy on the big boys and making examples of the minnows. Oh yes... and if they dock points earned while Tevez/Mascha were playing... it won't be too great a punishment anyway... what do they stand to lose? About 2 points?
Brainy Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome of this. No doubt it will be a slap on the wrist.

It'll be down to the Premier League - wont it? As for the punishment the cynic in me says quite loudly that they will drag their feet on this, um haven't they done so up until now and will mete out their punishment when they are already relegated so that it makes no difference to the outcome and justice will be seen to be done!

Yeah... you're right. I stand corrected. Ultimately you'd hope that the punishments were equivalent throughout the professional leagues, it'd be a bit silly if that wasn't the case. They broke the rules and should be punished accordingly. The cynic inside me agrees with the cynic inside you. Nowt will be done until the effects will not be felt.

London_Fox Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 Why is it the Premier League and not the FA...i'm confused. Surely though there has to be consistency in punishment. I suspect that you're both right and there will be much foot-dragging until it's too late. Danger is that West Ham stay up by a point (unlikely as that seems right now) and they have to make the big decision. Seems to me that points have to be docked though...will give Curbishley the excuse he needs.

The Premier League is an independent organisation with it's own rules, they will have broken the League rules not the FAs. Although I could be talking bolloxs and it wont be the first time
Thracian Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 Has consistency of any sort ever existed in the world of football? No more than transparency ever has.
Suffolk_fox Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 I personally think that they will get fined and have points deducted. Those Argie boys have really ****ed West Ham up! But if Man Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea were to have done it, they would just get a fine, and in the grand scheme of thing a pretty insignificant one. I for one like West Ham, they have always played attractive attacking football - I think it is a shame how they have gone to pot with the prima donna players.
Jay Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 it's all very strange to be honest, I also find it bizarre how Liverpool can sign a player who was 6months ago regarded as one of the best midfield prospects in the world for only £1.5million!!! doesn't add up to me something very strange is going on with these two players you have to feel sorry for them as they seem to have be caught up in a very dodgy situation with a very dodgy company when they are just a couple of young lads who probably just want to play football

Half of them aren't even Prima... thye're just a bunch of Donna's.
MC Prussian Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 The whole situation appears to me as if certain football managers are just not up to the task. How can you expect to sell a player against all actual rules in the transfer window? I know, they got a special permission so Mascherano could go to Liverpool. But then again, it's also the players and their agent's fault. Is it a money issue or plain stupidity?

At a club like WH I don't think you can really blame the managers, I bet they've got people to manage that sort of thing along with bookings etc.
JoeyB Posted 2 March 2007 Posted 2 March 2007 i would laugh if Pardew kept Charlton up and curbs went down with west ham. Eggy Boldy would look real stupid then, and palacewest ham wouldn't be able to keep all the players they've got so they would end up like leeds imho woops got caught in 2 minds

This is EXACTLY what I said at the time that AFC Wimbledon were docked all those points- all the points gained when the ineligible player played for them. Will exactly the same thing happen to West Ham? Will it bollocks.
