He'll do an alright job against Andorra though. I wouldn't play him against a good side, but against a team with 0 points, 1 goal scored and 19 conceded I reckon he should be able to cope. More often that not he receives the ball, loses it, then wins it back and people praise him for winning the ball. I just don't get it.

We need to change something and playing a holding midfielder in a game like this would not benifit us.

Geo V Posted 28 March 2007 Posted 28 March 2007 Downing isnt the best left-midfielder in the world but at least that is his club position and he is left-footed. Why we have this obsession to National level to try and play our best 11 players is beyond me. You dont see the Brazilians trying to accomodate there best 11 regardless of positions do you??!! Against Israel we had a CB at left-back, Phil Neville who does play RB at times but admits his best possie is central midfield but still we put him at RB, Gerrard on the right and a rightwinger on the left!! Lunacy! Get the best central-midfielder in the world away from the right and into the middle with either Hargreaves of Lamps! BTW, you cant call Lamps a willy puller, not with that damaged hand anyway. Call Louise one!

Before that everyone was slating him saying how poor he was! He hasn't changed much. He still can't pass a ball. He may be able to run but thats it. And he's supposed to be worth 20 million quid? Don't make me laugh...
