Finnegan Posted 4 April 2007 Posted 4 April 2007 Hahaha, Freddy Eastwood has applied to have his eligiblity to the Welsh national side looked into. Apparently his grandmother and grandfather are Welsh. Interesting. I'm quite surprised, tbh, I mean if he's applying through grandparents having lived in Basildon most of his life, he can't be particularly bothered about being Welsh in terms of like patriotism. So it's got to be a case of "where can I get into the international set up? But surely if Eastwood's worth all the hype, he'd get into the England set up eventually? I mean he's only 23 and is being courted by several Premiership clubs. Link @ BBC.co.uk
act smiley Posted 4 April 2007 Posted 4 April 2007 Pfft, even I'm more Welsh than that. Still, considering Wales have a rather staggering inability to score goals at the minute, its probably a good thing as long as hes not just doing it for his career.

I don't see it matters much these days people seem to have little or no allegience and will go for what they can get. Why should he be any different. Good Luck to him.
Joe. Posted 4 April 2007 Posted 4 April 2007 I find it so stupid when players get into a national side because they're third cousin twice removed's dogs auntie's brother is of that nationality. He's quite clearly English. He's just not good enough for England so he has to try and scrape his way into being Welsh.

davieG Posted 4 April 2007 Posted 4 April 2007 [quote name='Flyn. But it does and players have done it before in all sorts of sports, Britain/UK are one of the worse culprits because of the commonwealth. Where the English cricket team be without Piertesen. So it seems a bit unfair to pick on Eastwood.
Maybes Posted 4 April 2007 Posted 4 April 2007 Hahahah. He's even more of gypo than I thought he was. Dirty welsh b*****d
Finnegan Posted 5 April 2007 Author Posted 5 April 2007 I bet they'll be gwlad to have him. That was awful. :D Fair play, top marks. Surely he's eligible to play for the Irish? Isn't he European Romani? Still, considering Wales have a rather staggering inability to score goals at the minute, its probably a good thing as long as hes not just doing it for his career. Dunno. I've still got mixed feelings, really. Obviously he's a quality striker, I'd argue that Earnie's more prolific but it might be fair to say Eastwood's a more intelligent and probably versatile footballer. It's a case of "the more the merrier", but I'd certainly be happier to see some premiership / good championship quality defenders back-dooring it into the side. Yes. We're short of goals, but I blame the tactics more than the players. No team that can field Simon Davies, Ryan Giggs and Jason Koumas behind Craig Bellamy and Rob Earnshaw should be struggling to score goals. Certianly not against the likes of Slovakia, Ireland, Poland, Austria and co'. Toshack just doesn't have a clue who his best players are. He'd probably refuse to play Eastwood anywhere other than left wing back, anyway.

Isn't Pietersen's mum English or something, though? Only 1 generation. I'm probably wrong.
Finnegan Posted 5 April 2007 Author Posted 5 April 2007 Well we don't know what Eastwood's family is like, really. I mean we're making most of our assumptions based on the fact he lives in and sounds very, very Essex. He might have pictures of Giggs, Rush and the man big John Charles all over his wall. He might have worn the biggest leek in Essex on Dewi Sant's and may know every single word in the entire works of Max Boyce. Who knows?
Stevosevic Posted 5 April 2007 Posted 5 April 2007 Wales getting desperate i feel sorry for you guys. you've had Nathan Blake, then fatboy Hartson and now Eastwood
Finnegan Posted 5 April 2007 Author Posted 5 April 2007 Wales getting desperate i feel sorry for you guys. you've had Nathan Blake, then fatboy Hartson and now Eastwood Errrmmm... you what? Nathan Blake managed less than thirty caps in his career, most as a sub. He was hardly one of our big internationals. John Hartson might be knackered now, but he's had a long and decent career with a decent track record as a target man. We've also "had" some of the best attacking footballers to ever come out of Britain. At the moment, we've three Premiership / ex-Premiership goal getters in the side, two of whom are competing in the Champions League. As for Freddie Eastwood, he'd probably walk into any Championship side and several of the bottom Premiership club. I'm not quite sure what you're trying to insinuate, tbh.
Geo V Posted 5 April 2007 Posted 5 April 2007 Eastwood is a good player and would be a good coup for the Welsh. Lets face it though, they need all the help they can get!

act smiley Posted 5 April 2007 Posted 5 April 2007 The Owain Glyndwr is rubbish. Well overpriced for the average kind of pub/bar thing it is. Oh...
