dandannieldanok Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 1992 I think, Tony James, saved us What was the exact situation, what were your feelings say on the way to the ground and on the way back. In 1992 I was only 2 years old so I have no memory. We could have a similar situation this season, I thought it might be interesting to make comparisons.

Elliott & Steve McLaren played for Oxford that day!
dandannieldanok Posted 15 April 2007 Author Posted 15 April 2007 Ha. 92 we went to Wembley! forgive i'm young
Fez of Mahrez Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 forgive i'm young I was only 5 and I still remember the feeling. There's nothing quite like it. Promotion is good but you've been used to being good all season. The only time we've ever been vaguely close to that situation and got out of it was when Elliott scored against Sheffield Wednesday in 97.

Hot Saturday afternoon...started a little nervous..but good support..can't remember when Tony James scored but it must have been quite close to half time...the kop went bezerk!...we sang constantly through the half time break..and well into the second half...it got a little quiet towards the final whistle and there was a lot of nail biting (you have to remember this was pre mobile phones)...so we relied on the little radios...even at the final whistle we wern't really sure...but as soon as it was confirmed all hell broke loose...I cried for the first time ever at a footie match...and it was the best Saturday in town ever!
dandannieldanok Posted 15 April 2007 Author Posted 15 April 2007 Anyone care to enlighten me on what the table looked like before and after.

Geo V Posted 16 April 2007 Posted 16 April 2007 Yep, the good old days and I was there. Tony James, who the locals were touting as an England prospect () managed to save us and I can tell you there was no fun and games from me and my brother before the game. I can remember feeling almost sick in the stomach at the thought of getting relegated to the 3rd tier. The noise in the ground at times was almsot non existent as the fear set in but the penns kicked off thanks to TJ. If I am not mistaken, another quality player was player of the season (Alan Paris). It goes to show how shite we were when we got about £40k when we sold him to Notts County I think soon after. Player of the seasons worth £40k!!
