Leicfox Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 Right when i moved from Leicester to Blackpool over 20yrs ago, chips and gravy was the big chippy trend and when i got asked if id like gravy on my chips i was gobsmacked as id never seen chippy's doing this in Leicester, but ive grown to love chips and gravy and i even splash abit of salad cream on too for good measure. Anyway is gravy just a northern thing, and would you have it on battered fish or would that only be the curry sauce ?
JoeyB Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 i have gravy on fish,, pasta, spaghetti most things actually
Simi Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 i have gravy on fish,, pasta, spaghettimost things actually This could explain a lot.
Joe. Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 deep fried mars bars with gravy That's.. erm... different. I've seen the battered mars bars about but never been man enough to try one. They don't sound very appealing.
Geo V Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 I dont know what Leicester chippies are like now but when I left about 15 years ago my dad had a chippy and gravy wasnt on the menu. You had a choice of Curry, beans or peas . I dont really eat from a traditional Chippy down here in London as its usually chinese/Indian or whatever but I cant remember the chippies Ive been in selling gravy down here. As Soccer AM say, "Ooooh Northern boys love gravy"
Zingari Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 what do girls mean when they say; " do you want to go down for the gravy ?"

Bryn Posted 20 April 2007 Posted 20 April 2007 Leicestershire chippies aren't bad to be fair... you seem to be a pocket of decency surrounded by shite. Usually anywhere south of Lincolnshire is shit for chips but I've had some decent ones down there. There's a good one in Melton Mowbray that's catered me well in the past, and there's one near my Granny in Loughborough that's pretty good as well. Although there seems to be few options, and I'm innately cautious of anywhere that sells black pudding... but anywho, coming from Hull, we have damn good fish and chips. There's one near my house run by a very intelligent Chinese man which happens to be top notch, not too fatty, not too lean, just the right amount of salt and vinegar. Can't beat a bit o' curry sauce with it, or chip spice, or salt n vinegar, all good. I'm a man who likes his chips
Guest Posted 21 April 2007 Posted 21 April 2007 I have just tried the chippy in Whetstone, and the chips there are decidedly average. On a par with Blaby. Having been in Birstall not 15 minutes before, which, in my opinion has the best chips in the county, to say I'm gutted is an understatement.
JoeyB Posted 21 April 2007 Posted 21 April 2007 300 spartons in Loughborough if not arkwrights at mcarther glen in Mansfield was ace
blue blood Posted 22 April 2007 Posted 22 April 2007 slightly off the point the best 2 chippys in leicester are gipsy road chippy and grimsby chippy
