Alexikokopops Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 I thought it would be better than it is!i thought it would be like building computers, using word etc... That's a surprise, Word is such a complex programme to use. You would've thought it would be on the A Level syllabus
filbertway Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Debating which course to do next year. ICT or Computing. Pros and Cons anyone ? ICT can be easy if you put in the work and read the big book, also you don't have to learn viasual basic and programming. The coursework is alot of hardwork though
lookwhaticando Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 That's a surprise, Word is such a complex programme to use. You would've thought it would be on the A Level syllabus Believe it or not, there's a program at Carleton University here in Ottawa called 'Computer Science for the Arts'. Computer Science to me says programming in Java and so on... but for Arts students (and a lot of students take this course, and it is a valid credit) Computer Science apparently means the very basic elements of Science - Windows, Word Processing, other simple everyday computing functionality. The computer programming course I did was offered by the same department, with the same course codes - COMP - so it's not as if one's offered by a proper science department and the other by some other airy fairy bunch. I was astonished to learn of the existence of this course, and massively annoyed by the fact it wouldn't count as valid credit for me since I'm a Science faculty student. Of course... most students are doing Psychology, which is in the Arts program... the majority of them have been using computers since they were like 5... and they gain valid credit from taking a course that I'd deem suitable for KS2-aged students. Yet, I couldn't take that course for valid credit because I'm in Science, not Art. Shocking stuff, I thought.
Ricey Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 I did an AVCE in IT (worth 2 A Levels). It covered Visual Basic, C++, Spreadsheets, Databases, Presenting Info, Systems Analysis, Building computers, Web design, Graphics etc etc. Highly recommended.
Daggers Posted 9 May 2007 Posted 9 May 2007 Computers rock. Fact. Studying computers rocks. I particularly like the bit at Aston where we studied computer reproduction - they really are dirty little buggers...it must be all that interwebthing porno.

That explains the seepage under my laptop, then. And there's me thinking my battery had exploded.
