the_bowman Posted 1 June 2007 Posted 1 June 2007 Hi Not sure is this is the right place to post this, but anyway Is anyone here an official referee? Because refereeing is something I'm seriously considering, and I was hoping that someone could give me advice, tips etc. and a view of what it's like to be a referee. Many thanks.
JoeyB Posted 1 June 2007 Posted 1 June 2007 Cue Ched. he can get advice of his dad if you want it!!! ( i think) I'm A level 1 coach if thats any use!!
Father Ted Posted 1 June 2007 Posted 1 June 2007 Not an official Ref but i've had a run in with a few. I like the ones who stand up and don't take no Sh*t. But the ones who are scared and change their minds I love to wind up. I've had many arguments with Refs but amazingly haven't been sent off.
dandannieldanok Posted 1 June 2007 Posted 1 June 2007 Im sure the FA's website has something useful on it
Bert Posted 1 June 2007 Posted 1 June 2007 I love calling Ref's C**t's. My bank balance don't 'cos i always get booked and always contest a decison.
Bert Posted 1 June 2007 Posted 1 June 2007 Maybe Dannyboy. But the Early Learning Centre don't have matches any more.
act smiley Posted 1 June 2007 Posted 1 June 2007 I'm a not particularly official ref - I did the university's league, which they got in a guy from the FAW to train us up for with a shortened course. Of course, the guy didn't call back like he was supposed to for the people who wanted to apply for doing the proper training course etc. to demonstrate their exceptional organisation skill. I was, of course, absolutely crap, so I'm not the person to ask - I'd say its worth doing though, but of course, be prepared for people to argue about the smallest, most stupid things even when they know they're wrong.
Simi Posted 1 June 2007 Posted 1 June 2007 I'm a qualified referee. My step-dad's a linesman on the Championship and below aswell If you're thinking of taking a course then go on the FA website and look for a local course. I took my course at Holmes Park and that included child protection which is now complusory when you become a referee. Once you get past your first couple of matches you'll enjoy it a lot. Money is decent aswell. At £18 a game you can't really complain to much if you enjoy it that is.

Simi Posted 1 June 2007 Posted 1 June 2007 Ched whats the highest age you are allowed to ref with you being, what 16? It's best to do Under 11's and Under 12's I find. But I think you can go to 14's.

I thought he might of officiated the game against FA regulations i.e being too young
Simi Posted 1 June 2007 Posted 1 June 2007 oh, i was wondering because we had a young ref in one game this season and we abused him. I thought he might of officiated the game against FA regulations i.e being too young No offence but if you 'abused' him your not really helping the refereeing situation at all. People moan because they get shit referees. Mainly because all of the good refs have been put of by the 'abuse' they recive during there early games.

He gave the most dubious penalty ever against me, where i allegedly crocked the biggest lad i had ever laid eye's on, when in actual fact he tripped. We just thought he made the step up from under 11s to under 16s a bit too early. He couldnt make up his mind half the time.

Not every referee is good, but at least he has had the confidence to take up refereeing and spent money on the course to become qualified. A lot of the people that give out the abuse to referees would bottle it if they were in the refs boots at times. Fact.

Fact. Yeah i totally agree i definetely wouldnt want a game deciding decision resting on my shoulders but thems the brakes if you want to be a good ref. You have got to make the important calls and not make a complete hash of them.

It'a a view that many football fans fail to take, as do commentators. Don't get me wrong in the heat of the moment I'll shout but when the decision has been looked at several times it's hard to moan at the ref for getting it wrong at the second he had to make the call.

Yeah sometimes it can be damn near impossible to make a decision and hats off to the refs that can. But to the ones that dont have the ability to make a simple decision in a sunday league game

But to the ones that dont have the ability to make a simple decision in a sunday league game Simple decsion in your eyes yes. You made the tackle and probably know you didn't touch him or whatever. I know that I'm going down a one way street but I'm just trying to see the whole thing from the refs perspective.

Well he was near enough directly behind me and the player. Me and the jolly green giant were running shoulder to hip and he fell on his arse. Then i thought "thank god for that" and the ref pointed to the spot. At that point my head was in my hands

Wezleylowski Posted 1 June 2007 Posted 1 June 2007 Turkish... d'ya not think you should let it go now? I thought ched wanted to have a better picture of what happened
DB11 Posted 2 June 2007 Posted 2 June 2007 Maybe Dannyboy. But the Early Learning Centre don't have matches any more. I am, I sometimes referee at Belvoir Drive.
