As there's that bloke in from the FIA to see that Hamilton and Alonso are treated the same, why didn't he insist that Alonso use a second set of tyres?

So it's not equal at all - it's all in Alonso's favour!

Not this time..

But was it really a "team mistake", or skullduggery among those loyal to Alonso?

Whatever the reason, the incident has increased tensions still further.

Let's hope Hamilton is strong enough to cope with the pressure. If he is, the title will be no more than he deserves.

Very funny yesterday on F1 06.

Decided to do 71 laps of the Brazilian GP (which would take 1h 30m)

Lapped the "monkeys at the back" about 3 times, then crashed into the back of Raikkonen with 4 laps remaining. Similar story the day before..

World Champion if I won the Brazilian GP, 2 pts behind Alonso. Was winning last lap, and then spun off.

Terrible day for Hamilton. I can understand him being tentative from the start and not wanting to collide with anyone but for his car to mess up and cost him 40 secs and then for his daft team to pit him 3 times when they could have fueled him up at that second pit stop is disgraceful.

It just wasnt meant to be I suppose?!

I can't believe the number of people saying Lewis "choked", well actually i can believe it considering the people in this country. The facts are, if his engine hadn't cut out to drop him to 18th, he would be world champion. The engine fault was completely out of his hands.

Fernando Alonso would be "embarrassed" if his McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton won the world title on appeal.

Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen took the title after winning in Brazil on Sunday but McLaren's expected challenge over the result may yet hand Hamilton the crown.

Race stewards investigated alleged fuel irregularities by Williams and BMW Sauber, but decided not to punish them.

"If he wins the title because of this it wouldn't be fair. I'd be embarrassed for this sport," said Alonso.

"I'm not sure what Lewis would think - I guess if they give you the title, you don't think it's a present but rather that you deserve it. He would be delighted."

And Alonso gave his backing to Raikkonen as a worthy winner, saying: "Raikkonen is the deserved champion.

"If you have more points, you are the deserved champion, just like in football. Kimi has won six races and Hamilton, like me, has won four."

Hamilton came seventh in Brazil and so finished one point behind Raikkonen in the drivers' standings.

But had race stewards later disqualified Williams and BMW Sauber, Hamilton would have finished fourth, earning him enough points to become world champion.

McLaren notified motorsport's world governing body, the FIA, late on Sunday of their intention to appeal against the stewards' verdict.

After a torrid first season with McLaren, Alonso made it clear that he felt the team had failed to give him sufficient backing.

"McLaren got it wrong, they lost the championship for the mistaken decisions they made in the second part of the season," the Spaniard told radio station Cadena Ser.

"It isn't a secret that they haven't helped me much. It wasn't a very well-organised season from the point of view of the management.

"There was no sensation of being a team and the result speaks for itself.

"Each person will have to draw their own lessons from this season but if we had taken a different approach we would have obtained different results."

He added: "In the last few races my hands and feet were tied. I had no power to make decisions. I had to race as they told me.

"McLaren lost and Ferrari did a better job than anyone else."

And asked about whether he could see a future with the British-based team, Alonso said: "The only reality is that I'm under contract to McLaren.

"I know there are a lot of rumours but I haven't spoken with another team, that's the reality."

I think there is something to all this.

Lewis finishing on the podium, right until the last two races. And then it all goes pear-shaped.

Something fishy...hmmm

Spot on. Even the mistake in Turn 4 would have been ok - He'd have been 7th and able to pass the BMW's.

Walkers, Alonso is probably right there, it would be shambolic!

Spyker will become Force India for 2008 after its formal request for a name change was accepted by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council on Wednesday.

The team, which will take on its third identity change in four years, has been bought by billionaire Indian Vijay Mallya, who has plans to use the team as a conduit for talent and finance from his own country.

“We have applied to the FIA for a change in name of the company and the team from Spyker to Force India,†Mallya told Reuters over the Brazilian Grand Prix weekend. “I think that sums it all up as to why I am here.â€

Mallya, who along with Spyker's F1 director Michel Mol led a consortium buy-out of the team last month, has indicated that though the team's logo and branding is likely to incorporate India's national colours he would not push for an Indian driver before one is ready.

Having already stated a desire to re-sign promising rookie Adrian Sutil, Mallya said he would like to see a more seasoned driver in the second seat.

Veteran Toyota outcast Ralf Schumacher has been linked to the seat, as has Jarno Trulli should the Italian also leave the Japanese manufacturer squad.

“We need a driver of some calibre to also improve the performance of the team," said Mallya.

"We can’t have rookies only...for better performance I need a proven driver.â€

Who is Alonso driving for next season then ? , My guess is Toyota. He said the other day that Renault wouldn't be his first choice if he left Mclaren and Toyota could afford his wages.

One of the two. Can't see Toyota being competitive enough for him though....
