the_don Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 As a Northampton fan, I must stand up and admit that the team (and the town) will never amount to much at all in all likelihood, but I dearly love the team (not the town!)... I'm quite pleased with the signings we've made...I think players like Larkin (who's been 2 seasons in League One, so is fine quality thanks) and Coke will add a great deal to us, and I'm assuming Henderson will play wide right, which will make our midfield pretty solid and mobile....Our back five is the best in the league...And no I haven't been drinking...Sign a couple of forwards and we'll get top half, possibly scrape 6th, but that's a very long shot and unlikely
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 5 July 2007 Posted 5 July 2007 I'll be in Leicester for FA Cup / Cov game in Jan, was hoping to catch a fixture of the Cobblers but none seem to fit. Not sure they've got the base to establish themselves as a Championship team - best thing that could happen is a good run and/or sugardaddy (or physio - Scunners ) that would get them on the radar, then more people would come out of the woodwork for them. Love my grassroots football and I was impressed with the displays on YouTube of Cobblers v Iron..
Sods Posted 5 July 2007 Posted 5 July 2007 Shaping up very nicely indeed down at Sixfields for the season ahead. Have signed some quality (midfielder Giles Coke from Mansfield today adding to midfielder/forward Ian Henderson from Norwich, striker Colin Larkin from Chesterfield and left-back Danny Jackman from Gillingham) and managed to keep hold of Jason Crowe (one of their best players, pacy right-back who used to play for Portsmouth) despite heavy interest from Ipswich and Nottingham Forest.Add this to the decent form they showed at the end of last season when Stuart Gray took over and placed his faith in youngsters like Bradley Johnson (a very decent player who will have a good career in the second tier in my opinion) and Ryan Gilligan in midfield. Also a very solid looking backline now of Crowe, Jackman and Mark Hughes alongside Chris Doig at centre-back. They've also managed to keep hold of one of the best goalkeepers in the division, Mark Bunn. Sam Aiston is a decent player at League One level in midfield and they'll be looking to get the best out of Joe Burnell returning from long-term injury. The strikers are less certain. Andy Kirk misfired badly last season and James Quinn isn't up to it. A lot depends on whether Larkin can recapture some of his early promise. A couple more strikers are on their way and I have a feeling they could be one of the division's surprise packages for the top six, particularly if they can manage to bring back Simon Cox, a striker they had on loan from Reading at the end of last season who scored some important goals and looked like a very lively player with a decent finish. I've got a lot of northampton fans and their all gettin a little bit excited maybe too much and ive seen that before. Thank god we didnt buy andy kirk a couple of seasons ago because i really dont rate the lad. Crowe however is by their best player from what i saw last season and definatley good enough for championship level. If northampton do well next season they will have to improve on their home performances or maybe its just when i go According to my mates their destined for the top half and could scrape play offs but last season they said the same. Will try to make a few northampton games next season probably forest away again and leeds. I would really love it if they did come up but i cant see anything more than 10th but a nice cup game wouldnt go a miss.

the_don Posted 5 July 2007 Posted 5 July 2007 Fancy a wager? My head's never had any complaints so far
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 July 2007 Posted 5 July 2007 Fancy a wager? My head's never had any complaints so far Alright lad, twenty notes you don't get top half, fair? I'll bet you another tenner Larkin doesn't get 15 league goals if you want as well.
Daggers Posted 5 July 2007 Posted 5 July 2007 I've got a lot of northampton fans and their all gettin a little bit excited. That's because you've been feeding them meat again haven't you? Stupid. If you're going to keep Northampton Fans you must remember not to feed them after midnight, not to let them near water and not to give them meat.

AoWW Posted 5 July 2007 Posted 5 July 2007 I wish I'd listened to that guy from Milton Keynes who rambled on for about 400 posts about bollocks all now. There was probably something useful in there about Milton Keynes which I could use to my advantage. There's is now't 'useful' about Milton Keynes, unless you consider concrete cows and roundabouts to be visually appealing? Plus, girlie shopping in Milton Keynes isn't great either... the shopping centre looks like a dump these days. *awaits the cries of protest from the MK Don'ers* Sorry, that wasn't much help really, was it? What about Warwick / Leamington Spa / Stratford? At least they're all a bit more.... erm, aesthetically pleasing.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 14 April 2008 Author Posted 14 April 2008 14th at best EDIT: And if you think Larkins goal scoreing record, abliet with a fairly shit team behind him, proves that he is League One standerd, you need your head looking at son! Manwell Pablo Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Surely this bet should be null and void due to Northampton bringing in some decent players.
