Rincewind Posted 14 July 2007 Posted 14 July 2007 just a test. What does this sign mean? i'll reveal why. Coming home along New Walk there is a sign New Walk has been traffic free for two hundred years please respect that and keep it that way. NO CYCLING Underneath was the above sign. It did not appear right to me so I have just looked up the sign and it is actually a No Cycling sign. Alongside the image there was an expaination that some people mistake it as a cyling allowed sign and is not used much now. I did. I though the sign for no cycling had a diagnal line through it. I must add I do not drive or cycle so me being ignorant of the above presents no danger to the public. Maybe to myself if I inform a twenty stone cyclist that he should not be cycling on New Walk. Right off to bed now.

AyewJoking Posted 14 July 2007 Posted 14 July 2007 Red circle is an order whereas triangles are warnings and rectangles general information. This one is a bit confusing though. You'd think that in todays climate the government would change it and then add translation underneath for all the different languages.
Flynny Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 New Walk's full of bikes and it's fine that way. I rode up it a few weeks ago as part of my regular law-breaking regimen.

Zingari Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 you'd think they wouldn't name a street "walk" if vehicles were allowed ; why did they call a road "pocklingtons walk" stupid planners
Rincewind Posted 15 July 2007 Author Posted 15 July 2007 I would guess that when it was originally used there were few vehcles about.
