Tevez Posted 26 May 2008 Author Posted 26 May 2008 We wouldn't get in the church league. We could arrange to play other forums or what not, just like the internet foxes do. But they would be morning kick offs and maybe a bit of travelling involved. I'm sure people wouldn't mind chippin' in for a way of travelling. I'm sure we wouldn't go all the way to Scotland to play Arbroath Forum or something like that.

Thracian Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 Apart from a manager, and kit, and a training day. Sweet Presumably the idea is to build a list of friendlies, in which case couldn't fixtures be arranged for a 2pm nor 2.30 kick-off? That would certainly fit in with my timetable better. And were that the case I'd be happy to help with training and managing the team on the day always assuming the players were happy but I wouldn't want responsibility for organising matches or for team selection. In fact team selection would need to involve every FoxesTalk member who wants to play and it seems to me the team might best be developed rather like a celebrity football team, the emphasis being on the fun and social side of playing and the building up of lasting comeraderie within the framework of some reasonably committed football. Others might see it differently and it will be interesting to read the views but, overall, it sounds a worthwhile and fun idea.

Bert Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 Not a bad idea actually. Id say a poll on here or sumink. Not a bad shout but - How many times can someone vote. Maybe it would be easier to Pm a certain person with say 15/17 people you would want to be in a squad with.

Bert Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 *cough*Mablo*cough* Yeah whoever - But, you would have to wait until everyone has their names down. (We would make a deadline) Then, everyone can PM *insert name* with their chosen players.
Bert Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 Waiting for a Sub Forum or a sticky to be made. When either of them is done, we will start taking names.
General Smuts Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 When either of them is done, we will start taking names. As long as mines in and around. I missed out on sundee and im only a reserve for cobblers.
Bert Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 As long as mines in and around. I missed out on sundee and im only a reserve for cobblers. Oh yeah. If we go on the Yours and Thracs idea, everyone interested can put down their names and once a deadline is closed, everyone votes for who they want in the team, and the top 16/18 are in the squad, and everyone else is reserve? What i do want to make clear is, everyone has a say in this - not just people trying to organise. It's our forum, therefore it should be our team. Not just One or Two peoples ideas. So c'mon chaps, all ideas and opinions will be greatly received and discussed.

It's kind of like a My Football Club Idea on Selecting the team? Good Idea. Also, If people who have not played and would like to vote, they could use a player ratings thread to influence their vote.

If we go with the "my football club" idea personally i think we would have the top 25, because everyone wouldn't be able to make it every week, so then we'd have full cover etc. It will be interesting to know what others think on how many we should have if this is the way we go.
General Smuts Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 We could go down the Fash FC route whereby those 25 are chosen on a performance basis? Then the teams are chose via a my football club stylee, from those 25? OR People sign up for each position and a poll chooses the top 2 for each with the winner getting starting place and the 2nd place the bench?

We'd all need to be together and we don't have a tv crew following us etc.... OR People sign up for each position and a poll chooses the top 2 for each with the winner getting starting place and the 2nd place the bench? That could be a good idea but e.g Centre back would be 3/4 people same as Centre Mid and Striker.... It's a shame there's only 3 of us active that are interested in this atm.

AoWW Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 Ok, I've stickied this as a 'chit chat' thread but I think once it gets to the stage of taking names a new thread needs to be started. If necessary I'll ask Mark nicely for a sub-forum - seems the sensible way to keep things neat and tidy. As an 'innocent bystander' here's my thoughts - most likely random and quite possibly misguided! As I say, 'tis only my opinion though and as a non-player it's quite likely I'll have overlooked obvious flaws. Good idea, btw! Surely this needs to be part of some kinda league to 'keep it together' and give some purpose, rather than just trying to set up a random set of 'friendlies'? Although I agree with Thracian (yay, it does happen! ) that the emphasis should be on fun/social aspect/team camaraderie rather than purely competitive. Tevez suggested the Internet Football Association's Fanbantanet League (appears to be what the Internet Foxes are involved in - others will know more 'bout this) which looks to be pretty well set up, although there is the potential problem of travelling longer distances to aways. If you're thinking of going this route check out the rules on the IFA's site IFA as they give a pretty clear outline of how the league's set up and organised. Seems each 'club' arranges their own games by speaking directly to other clubs - these games are then either declared (by mutual agreement) 'friendlies' or a 'league game' (assuming I've got my head around this ok?) Biggest problems I foresee are the travelling and arranging times that suit most folk. Seems to me the best idea would be to have a largish group of 'interested' players (this allows for those that can't make particular games etc, and still gives everyone who wants to be involved a chance of doing so) and for each game a team and reserves is picked from the list (some folks will obviously rule themselves out of particular games due to lack of availability, injury, etc etc). Various ways of doing this have been suggested and all have good/not-so-good points so this is just my opinion. I think everything possible needs to be done to guard against it becoming elitist. I'm not having a swipe at anyone but it's inevitable that some folks on here are higher profile than others and make themselves more 'known' so it would figure that more people would vote for them, particularly due to the friendship/loyalty element. Surely it's only fair that as many lads who want to be involved get the chance of a game from time to time, even if the team generally consists of a regular 'core' of players? Feel free to correct me if I'm missing the point though. Polls are ok up to a point but, again, inevitably, people are swayed by the votes already cast. Perhaps Bert's suggestion of PMing 'someone' with who you want in the team is the fairest in terms of it remaining anonymous? (In which case, is it only the players who get a say, or can others get involved at this stage too? - would obviously only be able to happen after a deadline where a list of 'available players' is put forward.) Again, though, this will always favour the players who have had the most games, I guess? What I'm keen to avoid is that if some people are often unavailable - away at uni/work commitments/similar - they do not find themselves in a position where they can't then get involved. Dunno if that makes sense - what are other people's views on this? If it gets off the ground and you want any help with the admin aspect then let me know. If you catch me in a good mood I might be persuaded to help! Bloody insomnia!
Flynny Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 I love how quickly this has escalated, its actually brilliant. AOWW talks a damn deal of sense, too, make her our leader. One thing - what happens if people join the forum just because they want to be involved in this or something, and are barely active otherwise?

I think it's important to have the team full of fairly active members. That way it encourages use of the forum and also gives the side a firm and justified identity. What about a match against the Leicester City club stewards? Or the catering staff?

Uncle Albert Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 Right I am lost. Are we being sent PM's on who we want to play with?
