"Three Musketeers" make their mark

Our squad is fast taking shape and the Scotland trip should give a still clearer picture.

But our target is the play-offs - this year never mind in three years time - and I wondered are fans generally impressed or disappointed with our newcomers so far?.

To me we've moved extremely swiftly to rebuild our club. There's a hint of quantity-not-quality at times but most of MA's moves have made some apparent improvement, big or small.

But of the signings we've seen so far, not counting DJ Campbell's brief appearance and the absent Ka'ebi I see four big pluses so far.

N'Gotty, Kishishev and Clemence, "The Three Musketeers", have real presence and have somehow established MA's "All For One, One For All" philosophy as our tribal banner. How we've needed people with class.

N'Gotty's been a master craftsman.

He's calm, authoritative, reads the game with assurance and just does the simple things quickly. Eleven N'Gotty's and we might be able to keep the ball for a week.

Kishishev's in the same mould really. Not quite so effective against Notts County but just a reassuring and reliable guy to have around. Between them they've changed our whole reaction to winning possession from panic-and-punt to pass-and-push-onwards.

Then there's Clemence. He must talk in his sleep and for what was such a quiet side it's something we desperately needed.

Suddenly football must seem a wondrously simple game to Wesolowski who now seems to have so much time in midfield he could write his letters home.

Another to benefit is Stearman who found it so easy alongside N'Gotty and co that he no longer needs to hoof the ball hopefully cos there was no-one in support that he dare pass to.

James Chambers has added pace, energy and accuracy at right back. With Chambers, Stearman and Mattock/Sheehan in defence we've suddenly transformed what seemed the most pedestrian and poor-passing back line in the Championship into one capable of offering more support than one of those elasticated girdles you'd see on vintage glamour postcards.

As yet I've seen nothing from our other signings to suggest it will not be a straight scrap for places with our emerging youngsters

though you'd expect Campbell and Ka'ebi to be quality.

But I've not seen any duffers either and that makes a change for a City squad...and a big difference I would think.

I sincerely hope you are right about playoffs Thracian but I still think a jump from 19th to top 6 is too much in one season. I am impressed with the players we have brought in, I haven't seen them myself but you are usually pretty accurate on these things so I'll take your work for it. Anything below top half would obviously be a poor finish but I personally see top 6 as very optimistic and whilst it is achieveable, it will be one hell of an achievement if we can do it in one season although it has been done before.

Can't say there's anything wrong with what the guy's saying, just a bit of caution to avoid getting carried away. Just cause they did it doesn't mean we will, although obviously it could happen and I hope it does.

Don't think it will happen though, more likely next season.

So you think Cort, N'Gotty and Clemence will be better players with another season under their belt?

The target has to be promotion, whether we get it or not it another matter.

No , they are good players so another season wouldn't matter, just think that it's a big ask to try to do it this season.

Like you I hope we do get it.
