foxes_fan Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 I have just been made redundant and was wondering how I go about claiming this benefit. Anybody who has received it or knows how I go about getting it, your help will be much appreciated.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Ring up the job centre and arrange a meeting. Hope it all works out for you.
davieG Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 You have to go to the Labour Exchange/Dole office/Unemployment office or what ever name the Government's marketing gurus have come up with to register yourself. I hope you don't have much in the way of savings including you redundancy pay as you wont get a penny like me.

Bad luck my friend. I suggest you find your local job centre, give them a ring and make an appointment. They will sort you out with all the forms you need to complete.
foxes_fan Posted 25 July 2007 Author Posted 25 July 2007 Thanks for the quick replies. I'll get onto the job centre first thing in the morning.
David O'Leary Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 my dad has been there 2 times in 3 years through no fault of his own sorry to hear it
lildave3 Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 Wait...hold on... You're telling me you can get paid, while looking for a job?! Why was I not informed of this?!

lildave3 Posted 25 July 2007 Posted 25 July 2007 YOu have to be 18 dear That's probably why I wasn't informed then.

Most people when they're made redundant get a package explaining the ins and outs of redundancy! Didn't you get anything like this? Isn't there a thing called "one-call" now? You either ring a number or go into the social where you are given an appointment time, you then have to be at home at this time and they ring you and take your details.
Rincewind Posted 26 July 2007 Posted 26 July 2007 I found out that the main function of a Job Centre these days is not helping people to find jobs but to advise them on how to get their dole money and helping in filling out forms for claims. When I was looking because of short hours, I rang a number for more information about a job off one of those print-outs. I was told the same as what was on it and no more. What a waste of time. When I was made rtedundant about 4 years ago I was told I was enttitle to have paid time off to go to job interviews etc. But you cannot get much info about Job Seekers until you are actually out of work.
Kent Fox Posted 26 July 2007 Posted 26 July 2007 Redundancy sucks! I was made redundant at the beginning of June (hence joining here and taking my anger/frustrations out on people I don't know rather than my wife / daughter) and wasn't entitled to a bean in redundancy payments. The Job Centre is a help in gaining benefits, but get signed up to Monster and others in whatever field of employment you are looking at. Good luck
Guest Posted 26 July 2007 Posted 26 July 2007 I'll get onto the job centre first thing in the morning. Yeah, I wouldn't delay, as they won't backdate any payments, if you are entitled to anything.

In my experience, their main function exists to find reasons to prevent you from signing on in the first place. Quite laudable except when applied to me. Bastards.

Bastards. if you still need advice I actaully work in this field (for my sins) though it sounds like Jobcentre Plus has already been mentioned. Also contact your local council about Housing/Council Tax Benefits.
