I see the optimism has dipped a bit

At the end of the day, it's the first goal to go past us (OG apart) and it was within a minute.

I think the fact we didn't concede in the other 89 is promising.

What bothers me more is our lack of goals, or apparent attempts (only from what I have heard, nothing seen).

I'm still optimistic about this season. I think the loss is a good thing as it will give the players a bit of a kick up the butt to train harder. I understand that we gave it a real go in the second half and whilst we didnt score it will have helped the fitness levels of the players more than if we were winning 3-0 as they would have just cruised the last half.

Results in preseason dont mean too much, with heavy training schedules, regular matches and chopping and changing the side there is no consistency. This is all build up to Blackpool - if we lose that one then we should be worried, until then it is a training excercise.

While I was there and I thought we were piss poor even in the second half,we came up against a team who could pass it about a bit and we were left chasing shadows I know it's only a freindly but I also know that Allen always wants to win no matter what, worries me a lot!

Kilmarnock start their season next Saturday and are ahead of us in pre-season training and have a settled side. We have had one friendly postponed already and still are scheduled to play two more before the season starts so they must have been fitter than us. I'm not making excuses for a defeat but at this stage its all about a run-out for the lads, getting to know each other on and off the pitch and getting used to the ways of MA.

If we smash 5 against Pompey on Saturday it doesn't mean we will win the league as the flipside to that is if we get hammered by them and Cheltenham it doesn't mean we are relegation favourites. These are just pre-season games and all you have to do is look down at the long list of freak results that have happened to realize they actually mean fook all.

I'm still very optimistic for the new season but am also realistic enough to know that we have a whole squad that needs to gel on the pitch and a manager who hasn't yet managed at this level. It will be a learning curve for all but to put it into perspective, Stan James, one of the UKs biggest bookmakers have reported that we are the best backed team in the Championship with them and have reduced the odds. The bookies are rarely wrong but the point is, we are fancied with the signings we have made and anything is possible in this division.

Be optimistic about the season people! :scarf:

It's a pity to mention it but I also remember how well the bookies thought we were going to do when Levein arrived. I remain optimistic, much good has been done, but top 10 will be an achievement, certainly as things stand.

Agreed,I think I've probably got carried away with all the optimism and Saturday brought me back down to earth, probably a good thing really because there is no way we are going to conquer all before us and march straight back into the Premiership, let's face it a top half finish and not looking over our shoulder's from Christmas to Easter will be an improvement!

You're too sensible to be real (on here.)

Is that a good or a bad thing? :P

People are writing us off before a ball has been kicked on the basis of 1 defeat in 1 friendly, get a grip ffs  .

Throughout a season we'll have ups and downs and so will every other team. We won't really know if we're heading in the right direction till around October time. So until anyone can prove otherwise I'm staying optimistic. City are capable of going up, There I've said it.

No-one is writing us off. But a few are anxious that we solve obvious problems before we kick-off and certainly before October because by that time we might be so far off the pace it won't matter. Like we have been for two years running - and, remarkably, for most of the same reasons.

I didn't realise that people on Foxestalk were in charge of solving problems at City.

I must confess, I am slightly shocked to discover this because had I known I would have held you all directly accountable for the bollocks I endured on the pitch last season.

Well, I'd better go take the dog for a walk and sort the kids tea-time. I wish you all the very best with your endeavours to solve all the obvious problems at the club and hope that you can get it tucked away by the time I come back online after my supper.

It was'nt the defeat it was how we played, like I said before I know it was only a freindly,I know the team is new etc,but I've also watched enough football over the years to honestly say that first half display was woeful and the worse I've seen from a Leicester team ever!...there I've said it
