I see the optimism has dipped a bit

All from a 1-0 reverse against Kilmarnock

We are not going up, but more importantly we are not going down and will not be in a relegation trouble for the 3 season running.

Sit back and enjoy the improvement FFS, what is with the demand for instant play-off or promotion gratification :dunno:

Still think we have a chance of the play offs.

I remember oneills teams going up to scotland and losing. Pre season means nothing in terms of results.

I'm still optimistic about this season. I think the loss is a good thing as it will give the players a bit of a kick up the butt to train harder. I understand that we gave it a real go in the second half and whilst we didnt score it will have helped the fitness levels of the players more than if we were winning 3-0 as they would have just cruised the last half.

Results in preseason dont mean too much, with heavy training schedules, regular matches and chopping and changing the side there is no consistency. This is all build up to Blackpool - if we lose that one then we should be worried, until then it is a training excercise.

I've never really been optimistic of us finishing near the playoffs, more realistic. Yes, we're definitely going to be much more improved than last year which is going to be something to be happy about but I can't see a playoff finish.

Mid-table yes. Anything more for me is a bonus.

Agreed. Providing we're not embroiled in a relegation battle all season, we need to remain positive and behind Martin Allen. Let's give a manager some time...

Good, some people were getting way too optimistic because of wins over Hinckley, oadby quorn and those types.

Like people have said we'll be improved and will probably finish between 14th and 8th, hopefully top 12. Unless we have a really good season and are lucky with injuries and suspensions I can't see us finishing top 6.

We probably need another left winger, a good goalkeeper (can't see us getting one though)and quality striker to reach the top 6. Without these I don't think we will be able to mount any sort of promotion chase.

As barton said, we've just got to sit back, be patient and enjoy us hopefully becoming a better team over the coming seasons.

2 must buys alongside a left back but im not sure we need another striker until we clear out the likes of Elvis and MDV.

Also i think we still have plenty of reasons to be optimistic. Could anyone have predicted this much of a turnaround at the beginning of last season?

We should aim for top 10, anything more is a bonus. Next season we'll be promotion contenders.

If I recall correctly, did not MM say he wanted to be in the Premiership in 3 years?

I would say probably finish about 9th this season, in the playoffs next season, if not promoted then top 2 in the third year.

Anyone agree? :dunno:

We're going to win the league and the Anglo-Italian cup this season.

There's some forking optimism for you.

Relegation beckons. Only kidding, I don't think the result means a thing, and it will be good to see if Mr Allen can use Bouncebackability well

My son mentioned a comment made to him by one of the first team players to the effect that everyone was focused on a Premiership challenge this season.

The three year plan has been mentioned but MM's already gone public that he wants a top six finish and he will know as much as anyone that the challenge won't be any easier the longer it takes.

Thank god there's a few others that don't honestly think we'll get promoted next season. Don't get me wrong, I rate Allen's abilities to turn a half decent team in to a team that will punch above their weight, but it's surely too much to ask of him to get possibly 15+ new players along with a few others that have been part of a very crap team, to be challenging for the top 6 straight a way?

I'd take a top 10 finish, i'll not be pissed off if we don't go up, unless we're top of the league by January and end up 10th, that would be slightly frustrating.

Enjoy the roller coaster, it's going to be better than the previous years of utter gash.

I'd take a top 10 finish as well but not only should promotion be the target this season but it IS the target.

Hopefully our leaders will confirm that in practical terms over the next few weeks by finally attending to our remaining shortcomings.

I'd rather we lose pre-season than when it really matters, to be fair.

I'm definetly more optimistic this season compared with the last few dour ones!

Atleast we've bought some players this time round

You're too sensible to be real (on here.)

Kilmarnock start their season next Saturday and are ahead of us in pre-season training and have a settled side. We have had one friendly postponed already and still are scheduled to play two more before the season starts so they must have been fitter than us. I'm not making excuses for a defeat but at this stage its all about a run-out for the lads, getting to know each other on and off the pitch and getting used to the ways of MA.

If we smash 5 against Pompey on Saturday it doesn't mean we will win the league as the flipside to that is if we get hammered by them and Cheltenham it doesn't mean we are relegation favourites. These are just pre-season games and all you have to do is look down at the long list of freak results that have happened to realize they actually mean fook all.

I'm still very optimistic for the new season but am also realistic enough to know that we have a whole squad that needs to gel on the pitch and a manager who hasn't yet managed at this level. It will be a learning curve for all but to put it into perspective, Stan James, one of the UKs biggest bookmakers have reported that we are the best backed team in the Championship with them and have reduced the odds. The bookies are rarely wrong but the point is, we are fancied with the signings we have made and anything is possible in this division.

Be optimistic about the season people! :scarf:
