Lee Cook donates £250k to former club

Hmm. My second thought on this - is it a tax dodge by the clubs?

If Cook's gift was neither "sought" nor "expected" by QPR, it's unlikely to be taxable as it's purely a gift. But was the money ever actually Cook's to give?

Cook says that QPR say that the club felt they were short changed by the deal - maybe the £250k is payment for the player by Fulham disguised as a gift, and in reality should have been taxed in some way?

Any tax accountants out there?

such cynicism

This is clearly an altruistic act on the part of a pro footballer , a group renowned for their philanthropy and high ethical standards.

(Only joking it's clearly some sort of device to avoid VAT and corporation tax to which the player has allowed himself to become a party)

Lee Cook has come from nowhere and had one good season. He gets transferred for about £2m and future installments and he has personally made so much money on the transfer that he can hand over £250k???!!

How much did he make from the deal for christs sake where he can hand over £250k??? I bet the poorer members of his family will be gunning for him after this giveaway unless of course it was a tax dodge!

QPR Fans...

Rangers supporters are a special breed, perhaps even the greatest.
I bet those Rangers fans who booed him last Friday feel stupid now. To be fair to them though, nobody knew at the time he had made the donation. But still.
I reckon they were plants from Chelsea. I guess we'll never know the truth.

WE R QPR

What a twat this guy is.

Shows how fickle QPR's "special breed" of fans are.

It is quite refreshing that he did give them some cash as it proves he is a real fan. We have been lucky enough to see ex-players like Heskey and Lineker prove that they care about us when we were in the dumps but generally, loyalty has gone out of football and it has been proven by a couple of high profile Goons like Alan Smith, a supposed Leeds fan and die-hard who signed for arch enemies Man Utd and kisses the badge and Wayne Rooney, who was filmed singing anti-Scouser songs with his Manc mates!!!

I cant see anything wrong with this myself. In most transfers a player recieves a large sum of money either as a loyatly bonus if he doesnt ask to leave the club which is normally a large percentage of his remaining contract paid to him. Or in some cases a player will get 10% of the transfer fee.

He has been sold for around £2.5m so it seems like he has waived his right to his 10% and allowed QPR to keep it instead.

Good Points !

Instead of being seen as cynical he should be applauded for such generousity.

Its not very often footballers give money away but if he is a genuine fan of QPR and has donated some money to them, well done Mr.Cook
