Sods Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Problem is with modern stadia is that they're designed for seating. I think that the angle of the stands in the Walkers would make it dangerous to stand if they took away the seats. They wouldnt just take away the seats though, they would make the steps different, add bars. Even maybe having the seats still their.
potter3 Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 They wouldnt just take away the seats though, they would make the steps different, add bars. Even maybe having the seats still their. Yeah, this is the safe standing at bremen in Germany
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Yeah, this is the safe standing at bremen in Germany Absolutely perfect. What's the problem with that? South Yorkshire Police have a lot to answer for.
Joe. Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 That picture just shows how it could work. There's no doubt it would improve atmosphere in the ground. But being realistic, I can hardly see the club taking action to rip out seats and install this sort of standing area. It would a) involve money obviously ad b) involve effort to what they probably see as needless.
Head Honcho Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 There wouldn't be if they manage it properley! There's no guarantee though is there? The whole dynamics of crowd control changes when you install crash barriers and I doubt many senior MP's would put their name to any such plan. It's pretty safe when exit and entry is from the side but when fans have to walk up to the top of the terracing and then walk down a hugh stairway it really is something else and the way stands are built today it would be impossible to adapt many of them to terracing as they are much too steep.
Thracian Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Long story, cutting it short they wont be stopping me from going to the Walkers. But techincally, I am of sorts banned at the moment until further notice, which I expect to arrive soon. I'm in no rush we don't have another home until September 15th I don't think. I expect to get a letter telling me I have recieved a warning and can attend home games again blah blah is this is what the Stewards said I would get. If I get anything more then I will start to kick up a fuss because kicking me out, treating me like a criminal, getting a three man escort halfway round the ground to the dentention block and filling in a load of police forms for the terrible crime of not sitting down I can just about handle, but anything more is a joke. Anything MORE is a joke? Wasn't that enough? Talk about a jackboots reaction. Seems to me there is no longer a sense of the authorities trying to help an occasion go smoothly but rather we have safety officers showing total indifference to the feelings of individuals in their eagerness to obey orders based on some questionable PC directive. City stewards are obviously so scared not to follow directives they seem prepared to use those directives as an excuse to humiliate people. Was there any reason MP wouldn't have responded to a few quiet words....no. Was there any violent reaction that suggested MP needed a humiliating 3-man escort....no. It was calculated to embarrass. A form of bullying. Had MP done anything that warranted him going on record ... no. He had simply stood up. What evidence is there to sugest Manwell wouldn't have sat down when asked?. That being so there was no excuse at all to treat him disrespectively. It was unnecessarily provocative. I would never treat anyone like that unless there was absolutely no alternative. But uncomfortable as it sounds it all boils down to the fact that when some people are given a uniform they will obey any orders they are given. That concept has always been at odds with my thinking and perhaps explains why I quickly chose to work only for myself.

What a load of crap, how would that be impossible.
Head Honcho Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Absolutely perfect. What's the problem with that? South Yorkshire Police have a lot to answer for. Oh don't start that again! There were many to blame for hillsborough not least the many Liverpool fans without ticket themselves. SYP may have made the decision to open the stand but hundreds of Liverpool fans chose to go to the game without tickets. They haven't even learn't from the past as was demonstarted in Athens.
Head Honcho Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 What a load of crap, how would that be impossible. OK so you've called it crap!!! Wouldn't it be better for all if you gave us a reason for calling it "a load of crap"?

Frenzied Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere last week that the issue will be re-exmined in Parliament soon. Here's the article and another related one: Standing to be re-examined Related story
Head Honcho Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Seems like you do want me to start it again. .................anyway about Sheehan

Perhaps they wouldn't have to rip out the seats, just install those barriers, and they wouldn't have to do it all round the stadium anyway, just a block or two in the Kop, and in L and K. Perhaps they could make the top half of the 3 E blocks standing or something.
Sods Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 OK so you've called it crap!!!Wouldn't it be better for all if you gave us a reason for calling it "a load of crap"? Well for one you said it was impossible, i dont think it would be impossible to build. If we talking a section of the ground i believe they would take the seats out for starters, level the rows more out with more space. Add bars with seats. I really cant see this happening in england for a while unfortunately and definately not at Leicester.

Perhaps they could make the top half of the 3 E blocks standing or something. Those barriers in Germany look great. It shouldn't take too much messing about to get someone to design something similar without ripping anything out surely?! The quicker standing areas return to football the better as sitting down isnt right and standing up always seems to start off the moaners. Btw, MA isnt too pleased with what MP has done to poor Sheehan

Leonisco Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 Btw, MA isnt too pleased with what MP has done to poor Sheehan    I found that photo the other day and was trying to think of a decent way of incorporating it into a post, but you've beaten me to it. Nice work!

Finnegan Posted 28 August 2007 Posted 28 August 2007 David Healy got a second yellow the same celebration after he put NI 2 up in Cardiff last qualifiers. Totally off topic, but that was a complete joke. Yeh, yeh, Healy the **** did it to the Wales' family stand but it's still a stupid sending off. What was worse, was Savage's simply for getting back to his feet. Apparently that's retaliation. That was the worst display of reffing I've EVER seen. Oh & I don't think Sheehan did, no.
