Fez of Mahrez Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Sorry, been dying to make a big deal out of one of these shit reserve games for ages. :D
leicestertillidie86 Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Two penalties, in the reserves! Against what looked like a patchyWolves side... lets not get too excited. That's 2 more penalties than de Vries has scored against Wolves' reserves. Fryatt to start, de Vries out! Yes I know he wasn't playing. But that's beside the point.
Toby or not Toby Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Two penalties, in the reserves! Against what looked like a patchy Wolves side... lets not get too excited. You still got to put the ball in the back of the net though! With low confidence he could have easily missed them both!
Ajax Treesdown Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 whooptey fcking doo!!Milan must be having a party tonight, he sacks a decent manager, angers 10,000 odd passionate fans and another 40,000 armchairs and has made the 1st vital steps to fcking up our club BUT The reserves have won Milan another mature look at the situation
Tommeh Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 another mature look at the situation I certainly thought so On the other hand I may have been joking, or was I? Guess we'll never know.
Thracian Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Matty fryatt scored a hat-trick, Jimmy Nielsen had a blinder and Richard stearman was masterful at centre-back as City turned a 1-0 deficit into a 5-1 slaughter of the Wolves at Telford. Anyone who bags a hat-trick has to be a contender of Man of the Match but Fryatt's three included a couple of coolly despatched penalties and, while he worked hard and did well, his 8/10 would certainly have had some competition. The fact City won at all was down to Nielsen's first half heroics in making three stunning one-handed saves to prevent Wolves eating us alive with their rampant attacks. Whether it was Beaglehole or Stowell or both who addressed the team at half-time I don't know but the result was was one of the best half-hour's football I've seen from the reserves. Fryatt had already equalised Wolves first goal with a cooly taken first half penalty after Ryan Beswick had been fouled and it was Beswick who beat the offside trap to take a perfect through ball from Alan Maybury 14 minutes into the second half. Kaebi, playing a full game, was next to be fouled in the box giving Fryatt another penalty goal and the striker completed his hat-trick after a clearance from the Wolves goalkeeper cannoned into him, bounced onto a post and back to Fryatt who made some space and smashed the ball in from an angle. Ric Sappleton had replaced Carl Cort at this stage and another brilliant through ball by Maybury was powered home in typical style by the big frontman. City were pinging passes around like a ball on a pinball table and Richard Stearman was at the heart of everything, finding time and space to snuff out attacks and spray the ball around at will. Steve Hughes in midfield made more long passes to Maybury than he's ever made in a month of football that I've seen and Maybury - playing as a wide man, would you believe, hardly put a foot wrong in continuing the good work. Two assists was as good as I've seen from him since he joined the club. Kaebi seemed fit, keen, quick and competent in his first full outing, young Joe Magunda overcame a shaky start to help Stearman command at the back, and in every department there were no signs of the slacking that was seen against Forest Reserves at Hinckley. Player ratings: Nielsen 9 (Four superlative, three of which kept us in the match. Good handling and fast distribution. Just a bit rooted to his line occasionally). Kaebi 7.5 (Looked a quality acquisition. Quick, fit, assured) Stearman 8 (Best full game I've seen him play. Led the back line and ended up totally in control) Magunda 6.5 (Was posed problems early on but coped well eventually) Lathaniel Rowe-Turner 5 (Up against a tough opponent and was subbed at the break) Maybury 7.5 (Two assists and was generally involved and effective) Hughes 7.5 (Finally won midfield as his own and sprayed a string of searching passes) Hellings 6 (One easy miss at the start of the second half. Okay generally but seems to want a touch or two too many) Beswick 7.5 (One goal, one assist for the penalty and forever getting a toe in or making a useful pass. another good day) Fryatt 9 (Hat-trick, worked hard, I just wish he had a bit more pace and vision) Cort 7 (Lasted well into the second half and had increasing influence although we did tend to pump it to his head and looked better as a team later) Subs: King 6 (A bit casual with a couple of passes at the end but generally looked a class operator. Excellent in the air) Sappleton 6.5 (Another goal and lots of hard work. Perhaps he has got something after all) McKay 5 (Little chance to shine in the time he had). Entertainment value: 8 (Good open game. Wolves showed lots of skill first half but were overpowere4d in the end)
lildave3 Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Sappleton 6.5 (Another goal and lots of hard work. Perhaps he has got something after all) Should have been a ten.
Dames Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Nielsen 9 (Four superlative, three of which kept us in the match. Good handling and fast distribution. Just a bit rooted to his line occasionally). Soon as Allen leaves he has a stormer.
Flynny Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Soon as Allen leaves he has a stormer. Yeah. Good work by Mandaric there.
Thracian Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Should have been a ten. Look at it a 13 seeing he played less than half a game.
General Smuts Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Should have been a ten. Rocky Sapplezilla bags another!
lildave3 Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Look at it a 13 seeing he played less than half a game. Splendid.
Flynny Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Come out of tonight with a higher opinion of Sappleton, then, Thrac? I've still not seen the kid play but its good to know. Cheers for the report.
Thracian Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Come out of tonight with a higher opinion of Sappleton, then, Thrac? I've still not seen the kid play but its good to know. Cheers for the report. His big strength is the power of his shot and his willingness to use it. Sounds daft but he reminds me a bit of Arthur Rowley. Unlikely sort of footballer but so focused on the target he's always a danger because any of his shots can go in. At Nottingham last night no-one would shoot from 30 yards but this bloke will whack em from anywhere and boy do they travel when he catches em right. Yes, let's ignore his shortcomings and see where his strength takes him.
Bryn Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 No RoonKee then Was a bit early I spose... in fact, I just want to continue to put the nickname RoonKee out there. In fairness, it was a young and weak Wolves side wasn't it?

Geo V Posted 30 August 2007 Posted 30 August 2007 Today is a special day. We all had the pleasure of witnessing a Thracian ratings post which didnt side with all the younger players.
