Fez of Mahrez Posted 31 August 2007 Posted 31 August 2007 Mike Whitlow would be turning in his grave if he read that. lol
Geo V Posted 31 August 2007 Posted 31 August 2007 Fowler and Hasselbaink would have been money spinners for Milan. For example, at Cardiff in one day they sold 3,000 shirts with Fowler on the back. Say each shirt cost £35 + £10 shirt printing that's £45. £45 x 3000 = £135,000 in one day + all the other days they have probably made £250,000 of merchandising for him. If he's on £10,000 a week then that's enough money to pay his wages for 25 WEEKS. Taking most of the initial risk of signing him out. And Hasselbaink has probably made something similar to that. ( Plus he has a big name ) It was all part of a money making plan of Milan and nothing to do with football as they will probably be injured every other game. What do Fowler and Hasselbaink care? This is probably there last season(s) and are just raking the money in for the last time. That is why Allen would have wanted him on a trial, to prove his hunger, fitness and determination for the beloved game. Arguably, the shirts would have been sold anyway. Im not sure they have convinced 3000 new supporters to the club shop who werent going to buy shirts anyway. Maybe 10% of that figure at best.
BigGibbo Posted 31 August 2007 Posted 31 August 2007 why not? reasons? Because i don't want our team to turn into one of the footballing care homes i would rather of used the money saved on there contracts to buy a couple of promising teenagers from league one or two & still be able to pay there contracts for a few years & have change p.s there are some golden oldies i would love to get here that would help us in the same way merson & prosinecki did with portsmouth but i just don't think fowler or hasselbaink were them they seem to be just topping up there bank accounts before a plush retirement
Dagha_07 Posted 31 August 2007 Posted 31 August 2007 Fowler was found drunk in the cardiff town centre and Hasslebaink hasnt started a match yet which proves ma was right about giving him a trial to get his fitness levels up. Although the experience would have been good , these 2 players would of been a waste
Foxters_Fella Posted 31 August 2007 Posted 31 August 2007 To suggest that Robbie Fowler....one of the most natural finishers in the history of English Football is 'past it' at the age of 32 and would not be able to have made a massive contribution to Leicester City this season had he been signed is nothing short of plain ridiculous!! Teddy Sherringham is still finding the back of the net at 42 years of age in the Championship for Colchester and has never been in the class of Robbie Fowler. It is unthinkable to comprehend that a player idolised and nicknamed 'God' by the most successful team in the history of English Football is not good enough to play for a Championship Division team. Are you lot seriously having a laugh or do you honestly believe that signing ROBBIE FOWLER would have been to the detriment of the club?

Although the experience would have been good , these 2 players would of been a waste As i can recall i remember a few of our LCFC legends. Mainly defenders downing a few during there time whist playing for us. Also reports of them still being leathered whilst playing but still became legends. Robbie fowler has alway's been a drinker but has still scored goals. Hasslebank has played but didn't have a great game but i guess he needs time. Having played football i know that the start of the season is putting in your fitness. No friendly's can do that. Thats why the start of seasons are alway's a little strange. Also JFH is a great hold up player. Dont we need that?

When he was in his pomp he would score one goal every other game. Since he left Liverpool the first time he average is nearer 1 in 5 if you include the sub appearances which shows how much injuries have effected him. If you add quite a few of those goals were penos then that ratio would reduce once again. I`d have gone for him if we hadn't already signed an injury prone striker in Carl Cort though. Having two in the squad would be bad management but taking a chance on one would be worth the risk.
Foxters_Fella Posted 31 August 2007 Posted 31 August 2007 The difference between facing Premiership centre-halves every week and Championship centre-halves is so vast it really is untrue. I would back Robbie Fowler to score at least 20 goals a season in a reasonable championship team. He was available for selection most of last season at Liverpool but was quite rightly down the pecking order due to the other strikers in the squad. Carl Cort or Robbie Fowler????? This is the biggest no-brainer of the century!

This is the biggest no-brainer of the century! But Carl Cort came early on and RF hadnt made his mind up whether he even wanted to stay in England as he had offers from America and Australia. Im not saying Fowler wont do well in the right team as he still has qualities but the difference is at Liverpool he would have world class players to thread the ball through to him and he wont get that at this level, well not as often anyway. Also, MM wanted Fowler but he has been quoted as saying that they didnt go for him because MA wanted DJ instead. You cant just add players for the sake of it so it probably had to be one or the other.
filbertway Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 Well I had a £5 bet today with a mate that Hasselbaink won't score 15 goals this season. Confident.

filbertway Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 He has more chance of signing for Barca. Great bet that. He orignally said 20, but I just laughed and said 15. I'm about due an easy fiver.

DB11 Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 Both of them would have been bad. Out of the two, I'd rather have JFH as Fowler has already publicly stated he doesn't try as hard when he isn't playing for Liverpool, and also JFH is bigger and stronger and could replace MDV as the target man (if we still play like that, that is)
Pete_foxes Posted 1 September 2007 Posted 1 September 2007 I thought at the time when we were trying to get Fowler that it would be a good signing but I didnt feel the same about Hasselbank.. Now I'm so so glad we don't have either of them! Fowler hardly played so far this season.. I suspect it'l be a similar story for both of them stopping & starting the whole season.. Glad we didn't get them!
