Rincewind Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 I did not see all of the program so I can only give an opinion on the short extract. I have not seen the programme Brass Eye so do not know whether it is a serious programme or satire. All I gathered was that he was talking about people from poor and poverty areas where the drug culture is rife.
Alexikokopops Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 I did not see all of the program so I can only give an opinion on the short extract. I have not seen the programme Brass Eye so do not know whether it is a serious programme or satire. All I gathered was that he was talking about people from poor and poverty areas where the drug culture is rife. In that same clip he introduced Jas Mann, lead singer of the band Babylon Zoo which were big at the time, as "the man who is totally Babylon Zoo, The Chungwit, the biff-boff and the puff pastry hangman", and proceeded to ask him whether he'd written a spherical song and whether he thought he had a few more genes than normal people. He also gave himself a goatee and glasses and called himself David Voffov for the interview. And he says he takes heroin, on tv. I can't possibly see how you could think it was serious. Matt had made the point that if a white man made a similar satirical joke to Trevor McDonald then he thought he might be branded as racist, so I put that clip up there to show this wasn't the case, because Morris wasn't called a racist.
Rincewind Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 The fact that there were so few complaints shows how ridiculous the allegation was. No doubt the ones complaining were thinking 'If I can't call the shopkeeper down my street a Paki bastard and smash his windows with a brick why should Trevor McDonald be allowed to say what he says' Somewhere along the line there is a little misunderstanding with the differance between the two situations. With satire there is always a hidden serious point. That is why it is so good. It welcomes people who complain and start threads on message boards which in the end makes the subject even more satirical. Am I being satirical? I'm not saying.
filbertway Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 The word satire has been over used here.
Rincewind Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 I like whats on the front of Private Eye this week.
