If I was to go around calling Lenny Henry a "dim-witted, black comedian" I'd be done for racism I'm sure. I personally feel that yes racism cuts both ways and am very angry that he has been let off Trevor McDonald cleared of racism

Don't really see the problem.

Never seen the program but it is a satire which uses comedy to show flaws in society and people. On Mock the Week recently one comic said that to get a carriage to himself on an overcrowded train he loudly announces that he is an devoted Muslim and supports Islam and Bin Laden. I doubt that he does do this but the joke is funny in my view because he's having a go at the poorly run train service and how some people react whenever the word Muslim is spoken and assume every Muslim is a terrorist.

Bryn Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 It was hardly racist. True enough but if it was "black" rather than "white" I'm fairly convinced there would be uproar. I usually try to avoid getting carried away with kneejerk reactions like that to this sort of thing but I genuinely think that.

If this kind of stuff makes you "very angry" then Christ knows what happens when you have to deal with some real issues.

I nearly damaged my laptop display trying to get rid of that pesky insect.

Can't remember the exact words but she jokingly said one of the other on the show was a racist and he relied with 'Don't play the race card' She thought that was funny and laughed as loud as the audience.

But if you ever were to be discovered as a great satirical comedian and appeared on a satire program then even Lenny Henry would laugh. In a satirical topical news comedy show it is expected of the guests to make satirical jokes and comments to improve the viewing figures and to get 'The Mary Whitehouses' of the world to complain. Just listen to the context that the remarks are made then press your laughter button.
