Head Honcho Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 it was blatantly a joke & wasn't racist at all i like tongue in cheek humour anyway go on trevor Two problems with your summary! Firstly it wasn't funny therefore it wasn't a joke! Secondly it was racist! .........................or aren't black people allowed to be racist?
Steven Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 Two problems with your summary!Firstly it wasn't funny therefore it wasn't a joke! Secondly it was racist! .........................or aren't black people allowed to be racist? It was satire.
BigGibbo Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 Two problems with your summary!Firstly it wasn't funny therefore it wasn't a joke! Secondly it was racist! .........................or aren't black people allowed to be racist? If you think thats racist then your quite prossibly racist yourself, as bad as if not worse comments get sprayed about every week on shows like mock the week etc & i don't see the problem with it p.s the slowed down bit at the end is just something the retard who posted it decided to do his self
a-fox Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 If thats not racist its okay for me to say fat black bastard then. he needs hanging
potter3 Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 If thats not racist its okay for me to say fat black bastard then. he needs hanging :w00t:  harsh, perhaps?
BigGibbo Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 If thats not racist its okay for me to say fat black bastard then. he needs hanging How childish did you not see the context in which it was used it was comedy in the same style of Bernard Manning on a comedy show

I saw it first time around thanks! Ironically I doubt Bernard Manning would have minded the comment made by "Sir Trev" but that's no excuse.
Bluefoxtim Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 At the end of the day...WHO GIVES A FLYING FOOK? What does it matter? If you are offended by a comment made on a comedy show by a guy like Trev Mcdonald in relation to another comedian who made VERY racist jokes then.........

What does it matter? If you are offended by a comment made on a comedy show by a guy like Trev Mcdonald in relation to another comedian who made VERY racist jokes then......... i take offence at that description, i had the misfortune to watch it once and 'comedy' is not the word i'd use
Alexikokopops Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 I don't need to see it again. I saw it first time around thanks!Ironically I doubt Bernard Manning would have minded the comment made by "Sir Trev" but that's no excuse. I refer you to my earlier post. McDonald was parodying Manning's habit of stereotyping, usually when it comes to race, thus deriding Manning's folly. He doesn't actually thing Manning's a "white bastard", or racially abusing him, it's basic satire. Saying McDonald's racist is as ridiculous as saying Chris Morris hates all gay people for instance. Now I'm going to join Nationwider in a good ol' fashioned sigh. *sigh*

He tried to make a joke in much the same way Bernard Manning used to. He and his Brethren didn't like it when Manning did it I see no reason why he or his Brethren should find it amusing because he said it. I was more disappointed by the comment then offended. I'd be happy to go back to the old days when a spade was a spade

I'd be happy to go back to the old days when a spade was a spade It was unfair to quote you in that last post, it was more aimed at the people that have explicitly stated McDonald's a racist. I just got lazy and quoted your post. There's one key difference between McDonald and Manning, and that's that McDonald's using it to highlight Manning's folly, rather than making being racist purely because he thinks it's amusing (which is the Manning-esque approach). Anyway, lets all do some more sighing, just for shits and giggles. *sighs*
Joe. Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 This has been blown out of proportion by some. I don't actually think some people know who Bernard Manning actually was, and what he was famous for It was clearly a joke suited for B.M and I don't think it's offensive at all.
Nationwider Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 Regardless of all this racism hullabaloo, does anyone else find Dame Trevor a bit of a smug old sod? In the Michael Parkinson/S'Bobby Charlton smug old sod sense....
a-fox Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 if jade goody is racist for saying shilpa poperdom then trevor should be named racist and never to work on tv again.
Nationwider Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 Jade Goody is a thick bint. Dame Trevor is a smug b*stard. The only racist in sight is you, a-fox.

Geo V Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 The problem is that the whole country is too PC and they blow up things just for reaction and too create more news. The Trevor McDonald one will be regarded as satire as it was "jokes" however if someone white had said something similar in jest as about someone white then all hell would break loose. Its got really silly now but it will just get worse.
Rincewind Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 Satire jokes are made all the time on satire shows Politicians and celebrities are mocked for what thjey say, what they do and what they look like be they black, white or pink with blue spots. Comments were made on MtW about higer qualified immigrants needing a higher geade in English to enter Britain. The response was that it was bizare because half of the people in this country were not at that standard and the average Brit are those that when in Spain shout 'Hey, Pedro what do I have to do to get some chips here' Was that offensive? It seems the complaints are being made because (not my words) ' Huh1 it's OK for that black ex newsman to call a white man a white fat bastard but if I was to go to the corner shop and shout ge back to where you came from you Paki terrorist.' I would be called racist. Like I said in a previous post Trevor McDonald made the remark in a TV studio in front of an audiance with the intention of getting a laugh. Whether it is perceived as funny by all does not matter. He did not go onto the streets with a placard t proclaimed those words or did not go into his local drink six pints of lager then shout it so all could hear. Anyway Bernard Manning was fat and he was white. As for the Bastard part well he was from up north so anythings possible. Well I've done with saying my piece time for doing. SIGH
The People's Hero Posted 17 September 2007 Posted 17 September 2007 Bernard Manning would have agreed with him. Never seen the program but it is a satire which uses comedy to show flaws in society and people. On Mock the Week recently one comic said that to get a carriage to himself on an overcrowded train he loudly announces that he is an devoted Muslim and supports Islam and Bin Laden. I doubt that he does do this but the joke is funny in my view because he's having a go at the poorly run train service and how some people react whenever the word Muslim is spoken and assume every Muslim is a terrorist. I think you may have missed the point.
