Simi Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 Speaking at the post-match press conference, Megson said: "We didn't create any chances in the first half, apart from one header from Gareth McAuley which resulted in the goalkeeper making a good save."The second half was entirely different. We got a little bit of momentum and tempo into our game and we caused them one or two problems. "We started winning headers at the back, which is something that we weren't doing in the first half. I suppose it was a classic tale of a game of two halves. "Playing three strikers in the first half just didn't work. You pick players and there is an expectation of what they will do. We didn't get what we expected. "We saw the work rate that Iain Hume and Matty Fryatt put in on Wednesday night and they were both shattered. They came in afterwards with their socks down and they couldn't put one foot in front of the other. We thought that we have got other well-known, experienced players and we gave them an opportunity. What we wanted was the same work rate and the same level of commitment that we got from the lads up front against Villa, but for whatever reason it wasn't there. "We are trying to sort it out, but it takes a little bit of time. We are giving people the opportunity - some are taking it with both hands, which Richard Stearman has done, while some are sailing a little bit close to the wind. We can't keep doing that. "We are starting to realise not just their abilities, but their fitness, work rate and character the more games and the more time we spend with them. "We have been here for 15 days and that is our fifth game. We are not getting any opportunity to work with them as apposed to working on recovery and preparation. We have only had what I would call two proper training sessions. Some things are going okay, but not consistently so. There is an awful lot of work to do and it will take time. "I did not sign any of these players, but that is to be expected as the transfer window is closed. I know James Chambers very well while the others we know from afar. But we are learning about them all the time." Megson was also asked to give his thoughts on the Carling Cup fourth round draw, which will see the Foxes face the holders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. He added: "We will deal with the Chelsea game when we come to it, but at the moment the Wolves game is more important." Will he ever admit he is wrong with his selection?
davieG Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 Will he ever admit he is wrong with his selection? We're also learning about him!
Craig Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 Will he ever admit he is wrong with his selection? "Playing three strikers in the first half just didn't work. You pick players and there is an expectation of what they will do. We didn't get what we expected.
JoeyB Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 We're also learning about him! Outrageous tactics Likes defending leads Plays players out of position What else is there to learn next?
davieG Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 That's him saying the players were crap, which cannot be denied but as they only had one fullback and one defensive midfielder supporting them perhaps that contributed to it!
Simi Posted 29 September 2007 Author Posted 29 September 2007 I see what you mean Craig, perhaps I've confused myself a little in what I was trying to say.
TheBlinding Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 We are trying to sort it out, but it takes a little bit of time. sdb Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 fair play to megson. whilst it's not the team i'd have started with, there was some logic there. he obviously doesn't know how lazy the starting front 3 really are. he changed it at half time and from then on there was only 1 team that would win. not sure about the stearman comment though, i thought he was one of our poorer players - but not bad.
Matt Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 All he needs to learn is don't change a winning team, What was up with the team we played on Wednesday? We won, We played fairly well against a Premiership team. Oh yeah Hume and Fryatt were "tired" Sure looked "tired" when they came on after half time And them coming on changed the whole game and made other players who played bad in the first half look at more comfortable. No excuse for tiredness which I think is just an excuse from Mr Megson anyway but regardless no excuse for tiredness there professional footballers, professional athletes if we were over half-way of the season maybe I could understand that excuse but no this early, Stop bully bullshitting, admit your mistakes and you'll get more respect Megson!
ASH17LCFC Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 Anyone think the fans chanting ... WHAT ALOAD OF RUBBISH ... made him change the team ? We where dire and DJ and Court where shocking ... Atleast De Vries had ago and ran his socks off. Should have keep him on with Fryatt and Hume.

Atleast De Vries had ago and ran his socks off. Should have keep him on with Fryatt and Hume. Yeah never ever thought i'd be saying this but why on earth did he take De Vries off? Should have been DJ and Cort off for Matty and Hume. Cort - He was awful.
ASH17LCFC Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 I like how people say .. He needs games ... He fooking useless maybe good in the air , yet i haven't seen him yet win a header. Courts first touch is soooooooo shite though
ceebeefox Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 We need to cut Megson some slack , he is still learning. I was chuffed to bits for him at Villa he needed that , he didn't need the luke warm reception we all gave him either. And today l really thought fighting fire with fire ( putting our big lumps in the team ) was a good plan with D.J. sniffing and picking up knock downs, 3-4-3 was not defensive , the fact that our fire was a damp squib he now knows. Everything Megson has said since he's been here has been spot on for me so far and l'm beginning to feel he might sort us out, even if it is at the expense of wingers. Incidently he was the last man l wanted on the list that included Reid e.t.c. , but l think he is the first manager since MON who has changed a game at half time? I cant think of a game changed like that by our boss since the great man, who incidentally looked a little less great or bouncy on Wednesday than those halcyon Filbert street days l remember fondly.

Courts first touch is soooooooo shite though Mind you we/I were saying similar things about De Vries not too long ago but we look better without him tbh. I really was getting pissed off with him though, Especially when Hume shot looked to have been on target but then Cort got his arse in the way
WetFlannel Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 why does he insist playing chambers cm! hurry back weso
Simon Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 I like how people say .. He needs games ... He fooking useless maybe good in the air , yet i haven't seen him yet win a header. Courts first touch is soooooooo shite though That's not true. He did win a few today didn't he? Didn't he?
ASH17LCFC Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 I just hope that this Villa win doesn't keep him in the job for ever. Like Levein beat spurs remember ? We where going to win the league then and what happened ? Oh yes we nearly went down. Same when we won at Charlton, We where gonna try and snatch a playoff place. Again we nearly went down.

I really was getting pissed off with him though, Especially when Hume shot looked to have been on target but then Cort got his arse in the way The lad had a poor game but there was fook all he could about that. The twats in the Kop berating him for it didn't do the team or him any favours.

Don't boo him though you might make him try and give a toss.

ASH17LCFC Posted 29 September 2007 Posted 29 September 2007 That wasn't what I said and if you had bothered to read what I said properly, then you would know that. And it's Cort. Im sorry, not with it tonight.
