Fez of Mahrez Posted 2 October 2007 Posted 2 October 2007 Sorry skinnydipper, had some work to do In answer, I didn't mean to do down the Academy or Reserves but to be continually called out to attend these games when I spend four figures over a season on the first team, whose success is most important to me by an extremely long way, is pretty galling. In fact if the games were held at the Walkers I'd probably go but I'm not bothering with Hinckley. I still defend my use of the word "proper" though. They may have been poor in recent seasons but it's their success that will bring Thracian back to away games like Plymouth, Palace and Charlton in future years.

I believe there was a thankyou to TPH in there somewhere too. I certainly read one. Even if it wasn't intended. Oooh and I love the subtle dig at the end.

I don't think to many would bother if they didn't live there. Not mentioning any names .
Thracian Posted 2 October 2007 Author Posted 2 October 2007 As you've already had explained to you, the reason the players you champion get such a going over when they play poorly is down to the fact that you've spent the last few months telling us they are our best option! I can't see the connection between my opinion and how you should ever treat someone else. And some people are very selective about "seeing" who makes mistakes or plays badly. But for all that I still cannot see anyone better in our squad than Mattock as a defensive/utility left -back (despite people wanting him loaned out three weeks ago), Sheehan as an attacking left-half, Porter as a left-sided attacker (while Hayes was injured) or King as a midfield box-to-box attacker. If you know of anyone fine but some of the suggestions thus far have done precious little to convince anyone. And if anyone arrives, fine. It has already happened with Fulop. Having consistently argued that Logan was out best available keeper I've never had a second thought about Fulop being better since he arrived. In fact I'd call him our best recent signing.
Thracian Posted 2 October 2007 Author Posted 2 October 2007 It's one game! For example... if you only put people in the team based on their performances in the Charlton away game or the WBA reserve game, you'd end up with a team of Fulop, Pentney and Clemence FFS.Firstly he should be playing right midfield not right back and secondly if you're writing off someone being involved in the first team based on one awful performance then thank God I will never have to bother with Alan Sheehan again after his performances against Palace and Charlton this season. Except that no-one is judging him on one performance at all. You just conveniently forget the other ones. Kaebi has generally improved with each outing until last night but has only really had one game that I would call good. He showed some enterprise on other occasions but, at Telford against Wolves Reserves for instance, he was in all sorts of trouble at times, paricularly in the first half when he was operating at full-back. He's looked better as a right winger but it's damned hard to decide for sure when he doesn't play there much.
Thracian Posted 2 October 2007 Author Posted 2 October 2007 You can't counter the point that my mate Fezbert has made. Don't be silly.

Sorry Fez, work to do,match to watch, sleep and brekkie Fair play that you stand by the phrase "proper team" and I'm the first to accept that there won't be an open top bus tour through the city should the reserves win the Pontins League or whatever league they play in. I also doff my cap to anyone who goes to the away games as the odd away game is all I can stomach on top of the shite football and negative tactics that we get at the Walkers My original post was because I felt that you were having a pop at those who go to watch the reserves. Like you I work in Northampton and I live nearer to it than I would like . My reasons for going are stated in my earlier post ; I particularly want to see for myself how the fringe players are performing otherwise it's only if they make it to the first ("proper team" ) that I can decide what weight to attach to the opinions of others

skinnydipper Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 I don't understand the faux indignation here...The 1t XI IS the proper team. Everything else around the club is geared (or should be) towards the benefit of the first XI. The academy for example is to nurture young footballers in to footballers who might be able to challenge for a place in the first XI. The reserves is to offer the fringe players or those coming back from injury some competitive action. I honestly don't want to patronise you here.. and I'm sure Fez didn't mean the academy, reserves or any other aspect of the club any real offense or degradation... but his use of the phrase 'proper team' is, I believe, accurate in describing LCFC first XI, however much they might play like a bunch of muppets. As for the stuff about Thracian, check out how Tommy Wright, Chris O'Grady, Louis Dodds, Alan Sheehan etc were all the next best thing and would blow us all away. Then check out his racist 'NICKNAMES' thread. Then defend him. Don't worry about patronsing me . The only patronising bit is the reference to "faux indignation" You'll see from my response to Fez's post the reasons for my comments on the use of the phrase "proper team" I'm not defending Thracians views on our fringe players .I note that there are those on here who disagree with his views and by seeing some of these players myself it may be that I will disagree with him too . What I am defending is his or anyone's right to post their opinions without personal attack. As I said before I just don't get it. I think Thracian's match reports are well intentioned and are based on his genuinely held views on players performances. If I disagree with him I might say so by posting on here but I won't be losing sleep about it and I won't be calling him a cn ut. Any racist stuff is abhorrent, that goes without saying. My view is that it's up to the moderators to deal with that appropriately e.g a ban. Beyond that if I disagree with someone on footballing matters or if or if I think they have a naff taste in music etc I may say so but hopefully without being offensive
skinnydipper Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 Didn't mean to cause offence. None caused; I,m reasonably thick skinned. Like you I was just expressing an opinion And err desperately trying to get my posts up towards the 100 mark

He regurgitates the same rubbish OVER and OVER and OVER again and refuses to enter in to a sensible debate. When his view is countered, that argument is either completely ignored or belittled (often with hilarious mis-use of words). Consider the following. I think - We are mediocre. Lack imagination and penetration, have neither the players for a 4-4-2, nor a 3-5-2 and have bizarrely few options considering the size of our squad. That's a fairly honest appraisal. If you read Thracian's posts, you'd think we should immediately recall and play a forward who has been pushed out to the wing for a League Two side currently in the bottom three oh and that a team of Levi Porters would rip any team to shreds! One viewpoint is a sensible one, grounded in the real world. One is a stream of consciousness, an ongoing fantasy ramble, steeped in exaggerations, spurious information and supposition.

The People's Hero Posted 3 October 2007 Posted 3 October 2007 Don't get sucked into TPH's racist claptrap. He's like someone out of 1984. All I've done is refer him to the thread, Thracian. His interpretations, if he chooses to read it, are up to him.

Can't get too involved in your or anyone else's battle especially as being a special needs typer would give me a distinct disadvantage I don't dispute your right to think that your opinions are brilliant and that others are rubbish.I've been told on occasion that is a trait that I possess. The point I'm trying to make is about how one tells another that you're right and they're wrong.
