Fez of Mahrez Posted 31 October 2007 Posted 31 October 2007 Chelsea are set for a £70m fight with Italian side AC Milan to sign Brazil playmaker Ronaldinho, who is falling out of favour at Barcelona. (The Sun) Meanwhile, the Blues are also considering a £12m move for Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka. (Daily Mail) The Stamford Bridge club are also set to buy Lokomotiv Moscow midfielders Diniyar Bilyaletdinov and Branislav Ivanovic for £20m in the January transfer window. (Independent)
The People's Hero Posted 31 October 2007 Posted 31 October 2007 I'm a fan of the independent but their football rumours are always complete tosh.
General Smuts Posted 31 October 2007 Posted 31 October 2007 Bricking it clearly. Fingers crossed thier so preoccupied with transfers that we catch them unawares and snatch a victory. A man can dream.

I despise Chelsea. I think there approach to the prem next season will be "Lets just buy all the best players in our league like Gerrard and Anelka and Rooney, Tevez, Richards. And then the other teams will just be shite while we have players like Tevez and Anelka on our bench and in the reserves." Wankers

It will all go Pete Tongue when Rom ****s off, then lets see who wants to play for them.

They both spent insane amounts in the summer as well. Manchester United did it most of the nineties, Blackburn did it too when they won the league...I don't really see why Chelsea come in for so much stick when the other two are just as bad.

Well I suppose they are the first club to do it in the time i can remember. I was only i wee nipper in the nineties. I just hate the way they can have virtuallly any player they like. It really gets my goat.

Fat Ron Posted 31 October 2007 Posted 31 October 2007 Arsenal, Blackburn, Man United or Chelsea.... Name a side to not have bought the Title? Granted, some players come through the Acadamies but not many. All of the sides to have won the Prem have spent Millions to do so. Unfortunatly thats Football nowadays. Its more of a Business than a Sport.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 31 October 2007 Posted 31 October 2007 Forest didn't buy the title. Apart from paying oooodles for Trevor Francis, but I think he was second season?

The People's Hero Posted 31 October 2007 Posted 31 October 2007 It really is time we had a quota system like NFL. Yeah, every team should have 2 Albanians, 1 lesbian, a blind chap, 1 horseman of the apocalypse, one south-american dictator and at least 2 home grown talents in it (who have been artifically modified to give them an extra limb).
Manwell Pablo Posted 31 October 2007 Posted 31 October 2007 Arsenal hardly bought the title their spending was well below some of their main rivals.
The People's Hero Posted 31 October 2007 Posted 31 October 2007 I'm more worried about that big tidal wave heading this way!
Cheese Me Posted 31 October 2007 Posted 31 October 2007 Arsenal hardly bought the title their spending was well below some of their main rivals. And when United won it in 96/97 (I think) with The Nevilles, David May, Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, etc. They ditched most of their expensive players like Kanchelskis and Ince and essentially played the youth team. Think a few would like Leicester to learn from that example
Cheese Me Posted 31 October 2007 Posted 31 October 2007 It really is time we had a quota system like NFL. I love American football and although there are still big teams that often do well they do have a number of ways to make the league much more competitive than we have over here. A salary cap that essentially everyone spends to means that no one club can buy up all the talent (unless they can convinve them to come on a pittance of a wage) and tends to mean that everyone has one or two stars. The other important aspect is that the worst placed teams get first pick of the new talent coming out of college which would be harder to implement over here but might be a nice idea if we ever were to implement a genuine national academy. A salary cap (and possibly a cap on transfer fees) is well overdue though. I love Leicester but year after year I find myself slightly less interested in football as a whole as it's just too predictable. Wouldn't it be great to see it shaken up a bit - to see a top 4 side relegated or a team like Middlesbrough or Fulham (or Leicester:) )win the premiership?
