lookwhaticando Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 From the ever-reliable Mirror.co.uk Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric is ready to make a second attempt to lure Iain Dowie from Coventry - and make him the Foxes' new boss this week. Dowie was close to the Leicester job after Martin Allen left, but he would not quit the Sky Blues and Mandaric was reluctant to pay the compensation. But now Mandaric, who has spoken to several candidates, is preparing to make a fresh move after the Foxes travel to struggling Preston tonight - and he has the cash to pay the £500,000 'fee' after Bolton paid him to take Gary Megson to the Reebok Stadium. Dowie may be tempted to go now with Coventry in financial peril. The Sky Blues are facing possible administration, even if there is a takeover, because their debts of £38million are too difficult to manage. Former Wigan gaffer Paul Jewell has already turned down the chance to speak to Mandaric, leaving Dowie favourite ahead of Plymouth's Ian Holloway and Peter Reid. Leicester were keen on Holloway under a previous regime, and he has done well for Argyle, while Reid has also been interviewed after sources within the game strongly advised Mandaric to discuss the vacancy with him. If Dowie does cross the Midlands, he could find himself in charge of a team with two new midfielders. Mandaric has lined up a double swoop on Birmingham to sign Damien Johnson and Neil Danns on loan. Johnson has recovered from injury while Danns has struggled to get a start. --------- Half a million to bring Dowie in? Jesus. The lack of Royle in the list of candidates in preferred order scares the shit out of me. Is Reid really the preferred of the 'three' that were already interviewed? I think I'm gonna cry. As for the midfielders... I don't know enough about them to comment.

They're both pretty good, Dannes was the golden boy of Colchester and Johnson is proven quality, we could certainly do with them in our current plight. I don't know when the window re-opens though? January?

The People's Hero Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Danns is quality. Good workrate about him. Good engine. Comparable in some ways to Chambers in that he might look a bit ungainly as he does it, but he'll cover every blade of grass. I'd just at the chance. Johnson was amazing a few years back - hardly seen or heard anything of him since. Wouldn't say no to having either in our team.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Johnson was Birmingham's captain last season. When he was injured it was Clemence. If they'd gone any further down the pecking order it could then have been N'Gotty! Johnson is a workhorse for me, nothing more. Danns hasn't played much football for a couple of years now but looked good in League One with Colchester. Forest have been after him for ages. Would certainly be a better option than Chambers or Kenton.

Manwell Pablo Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Just seems a bit rough and tumble to me. A lot of elbows, nasty challenges etc. I think he's quite good techincally, for this league anyway, better than the two we've got playing there at the moment thats for certain.

Staf Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Damien Johnson and Stephen Clemence in centre midfield
Rocky Dennis Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Johnson was Birmingham's captain last season. When he was injured it was Clemence. Jack Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Wouldn't mind either. I've always rated Danns, not seen too much of Johnson.
RowlattsFox Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Johnson is a similar player to Wesolowski in my opinion, just more experienced. Danns could be the attacking midfielder we need but we dont know what he is like at this level because he didnt get many opportunities last season.
dog_4 Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 slightly tired of seeing us sign midfielders that are tiny. we need a big strong beast in the centre.
Jack Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 slightly tired of seeing us sign midfielders that are tiny. we need a big strong beast in the centre. They don't have to be big to be physical. Take Clem and Weso for Example.
Bojimha Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Damien Johnson would be excellent for us and Danns would be pretty useful! We will then have 5 players who got promotion with Brum last year! Awesome.
dandannieldanok Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 I think we could have overwhelmed Preston tonight with players like this pair in the midfield rather than two second-rate right-backs.
ASH17LCFC Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Get um in !!! We need midfielders and these two where part of a team that went up last year. I always rated Johnson and not heard that much about Danns but must be better then Kenton.
Ultra Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Danns is quality. Good workrate about him. Good engine. Comparable in some ways to Chambers in that he might look a bit ungainly as he does it, but he'll cover every blade of grass. Comparable in the sense that he's a specialist midfielder and Chambers, whatever Megson and Burrows may believe, isn't. Danns looked the biz at Colchester when they went up two seasons ago and if he could reproduce that form for us would be an inspired signing. Although Mandaric's recent record (will Ferreira or Djeziri play a first team game between them?) suggests otherwise..
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Danns would be terrific and Johnsons would provide a bit more class and experience to our midfield. Although there might be nothing to it, at least this rumour shows that we are making possible strides towards sorting out our problem area.
TheBlinding Posted 6 November 2007 Posted 6 November 2007 Is this the same Mirror that reckons Liverpool want Kenweyne Jones for £12million?
TrickyTrev Posted 7 November 2007 Posted 7 November 2007 "while Reid has also been interviewed after sources within the game strongly advised Mandaric to discuss the vacancy with him." It really is just an old boys club isn't it? I heard the same thing from Gartside when appointing Megson. These idiotic chairman listen to these guys mates when they reccomend them for a job!

Very excited by the prospect of both of those players. Very unexcited by the prospect of half the managers we're linked with
