Fox in a Box Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 Yeovil Town's bid to sign a Championship winger has been scuppered by Ian Holloway's imminent move to Leicester City. Manager Russell Slade had lined up a move to take Jonathan Hayes, a young left-sided player, on loan from the Walkers Stadium. But Holloway will want to keep his entire squad intact so he can assess it fully on his arrival in the East Midlands after leaving Plymouth Argyle. Article Continues The 20-year-old followed a familiar path from the Republic of Ireland to Reading before moving to Leicester. Hayes has made just one substitute appearance for the Foxes this season, but has enjoyed successful loan spells at Forest Green Rovers and MK Dons in recent campaigns. Slade will now look elsewhere for the wide man he needs, but time is not on his side as the deadline for loan moves prior to the opening of the January window is today. More positively, a copy of Slade's new contract has been drafted by director Stephen Allinson and will be handed to the manager later this week. Slade has agreed a two-year extension to his Huish Park deal which will keep him in Somerset until 2011. Yeovil travel to Millwall on Saturday and will hope to have Ritchie Jones and Matty Rose back in their squad. The midfield pair have been sidelined with a groin strain and an ankle injury respectively for the last fortnight. http://www.westerndailypress.co.uk/display...;pNodeId=145803 Slade is hoping the pair may be able to train this morning with a view to featuring in the 16 to be on duty at the New Den.

Good idea i think to asses your squad before letting anyone else out on loan... usually when a new manager is appointed he makes a couple of changes to the side.....
Staf Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 I wouldnt let him go we are hardly brilliant down the left and side and Hayes is a left sided player who hasnt played yet apart from a sub appearence for 10 minutes
Thracian Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 I wouldnt let him go we are hardly brilliant down the left and side and Hayes is a left sided player who hasnt played yet apart from a sub appearence for 10 minutes It surprised me too. With Porter out long term with his medial ligament damage, Hayes, though still short of full match fitness, would seem to be our only specialist left-winger. That said I cannot see him having a long term future here. He's been injury-plagued ever since his arrival and doesn't quite seem to have the speed/strength required for first team football. Not that he's the only one.
sotonfox Posted 22 November 2007 Posted 22 November 2007 Bloody eck I'd almost forgotten this transfer forum was here!!

Surely he's worth a first team rn out over two youths. I liked the look of hm.

Agreed he seemed to have something about him, glad IH is assesing the squad, i think we might see some of these "Internationals" get a run out now. just so we can see what they are really like. i wouldnt be surprised to see ferreira in the sqaud for satdeh simply because IH will choose what "should" be our best team.

'cept that he's already said today that most of his information has come from the existing staff at the club - the reserve, academy and first team coaches who remain in a job. The very same people who couldn't have been terribly impressed by the international superstars on our books... Besides... with a squad of 30+ players, do you really honestly expect him to bother looking at players who haven't featured at all for the first team recently? With his first match being less than 48 hours after him getting the job, is it likely that he'll look at the entire squad... or just the 20-25 that have actually played a first team game? Anyone expecting our "international superstars" to make a quick entrance will be sorely disappointed. Holloway will choose a squad based upon the conclusions about the players he receives from the existing coaching staff - the very people our superstars failed to impress over the course of the last 8-10 weeks. If Holloway still isn't picking these players come the end of December, it'll say a lot about the quality of these players if they fail to impress another management team.

kevinwpratt Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 He's done something to impress Ollie......
Bojimha Posted 26 November 2007 Posted 26 November 2007 he looked okay tonight when we came on, a few more appearances to get fully fit and settled and i think we will see a good player
Ultra Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 he looked okay tonight when we came on, a few more appearances to get fully fit and settled and i think we will see a good player Agreed.. We are short enough of left-sided players as it stands. It would have been insane to let him go anywhere on loan.
Flynny Posted 27 November 2007 Posted 27 November 2007 Looked better than okay to me. Smashing crosses, linked up well with Sheehan. Don't see why he wasn't playing before. Glad we didn't let him go.
