Fox in a Box Posted 29 November 2007 Posted 29 November 2007 Coventry City are staring administration in the face after potential takeover talks stalled. A consortium led by ex-Manchester City man Ray Ranson had reportedly been close to striking a deal that may have staved off the threat of administration. However, the Co-Op bank, which is owed £18million by the club, blocked the bid by SISU - the investment company behind Ranson. Sky Blues chairman Joe Elliott has admitted there is little time left to revive takeover talks with the players' wages due. Crisis point "We have reached crisis point," explained Elliott. "The clock was always ticking and we have negotiated hard." Should Coventry go into administration a ten-point deduction would leave them third bottom in the table and facing the real threat of relegation to League One. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11688_2928567,00.html
David O'Leary Posted 29 November 2007 Posted 29 November 2007 How brilliant would it be to see Covscum get a 10 point deduction
Fat Ron Posted 29 November 2007 Posted 29 November 2007 As much as I hate Cov, Forest Leeds ect... I dont want to see any club go through the Administration process, It wont be too long before a top club goes out of business completley... Something has to be done to save the game in this country.
Phlashman Posted 29 November 2007 Posted 29 November 2007 Hey, it'll be another place nearer to the playoffs for us!

Yeah but Cov were among the clubs who voted to introduce the 10-point penalty in the first place. We were the ONLY club in the entire league to vote against. What goes around, comes around.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 29 November 2007 Posted 29 November 2007 Mifsud to the Premiership = Coventry to League One.

hairy Posted 29 November 2007 Posted 29 November 2007 Thats fair enough, I just think its a shame that so many clubs (not just Cov) are in the same boat.. Got to agree there. Too many clubs, outside the premiership, seem to be flirting with admin. Maybe its time the League review their policies on distribution of income. I know they will not bail a club out but maybe they could review giving so much money to the premiership. That might too slow pay demands of players in the top flight which could cascade down the leagues giving all clubs a better chance in the long run of avoiding admin.
Staf Posted 29 November 2007 Posted 29 November 2007 So they could be -10 points and managerless unlucky

Maybe it's about time clubs learnt to run themselves better, these things don't exactly happen by accident. It's all well & good saying give more money to lower league clubs but it'll just get spent on players wages, as increased income in the Premiership does, and will not help the situation. We got into financial difficulty due to the board's mis-management of things, same reason every other club does. Look at leeds - gave stupid wages to players, spent a fortune on transfer fees & relied on Champions League football to balance the books, when it didn't happen they were left up sh it creek as there was no contingency. It's not nice for the fans of these clubs that go into administration, as we all know, & I have sympathy for them, but not the incompetent morons who's bad management has resulted in things going tits up. In this instance I'm torn between sympathy & unbridled joy seeing as I live in Cov & most of the lads in my sunday league team support them.

Unfortunately due to the FA's weakness and caving into big club pressure and allowing the Premier League to be created (one justification was we'd have a more successful England Team ) the Premier League and the Football League are two seperate 'businesses' and they can and do distribute their income how they want to. The Premier League can't even create a level playing field for their own league never mind worrying about the Football League. It's not as if, like it did in the past it relies on the Football League as feeder clubs; I'm sure they'd like to make the Premier League a closed shop.

Clubs should have thought about thier own futures instead of trying to screw us over. I hope they get the deduction get relegated and go out of business.
FilboFox Posted 30 November 2007 Posted 30 November 2007 So they could be -10 points and managerless unlucky -10 points, manager-less and no money... even worse as nobody would want to go there!
The Stig Posted 30 November 2007 Posted 30 November 2007 Too be really honest, there are few clubs who I actually hate. I love my own, and obviously it's great to see us beat local rivals, but I hope Coventry saty afloat, as If they went down we'd miss what Is always a great fixture. Good luck to the, so long as they don't get any better than us.
