WetFlannel Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 I forgot Campbell. He's dangerous, no question but he still doesn't have Hammond's strength nor, I suspect, his stamina.King could help both from midfield given a bit more licence and the confidence which will come with a few more games. In fact one of the problems for King is the lack of runners ahead of him to give him passing options. Most times today he was lucky to have one available team-mate we were so static. No reason we shouldn't utilise both Campbell and Hammond if we could ever get them fit. i still feel collins john is the best striker we currently have, but i do think hammond is being overlooked... maybe a place on the bench would be suitable considering he isnt anywhere near the squad at the moment... but with the strikers we have its hard to see how were not scoring goals as with hume, campbell, john, fryatt, cort and hammond, there arent many teams in the league with that number of goal scorers i still think the midfield needs to be drastically addressed... king today done ok with an astonishing goal that wouldve been good enough to win any game, but the width we have is poor. It was good to see hayes get a game, and he did reasonably well in my opinion, and i think levi is a great player on his day (hence why i have him on last seasons shirt). Right wing has been constantly given to kaebi, who i dont know anything about as i dont watch the reserves, yet reports suggest he isnt what hes made out to be. Weso has been tried there but doesnt provide proper width, such as players like ashley young or jermaine pennant... max gradel is untested at this level and hume has tried there aswell, this is the area i feel needs to be targeted in january the most. De Vries i dont think is needed with the strikers we have at the moment...
AyewJoking Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 I dont rate Hammond at all. All I remember is how poor a footballer he is. So what if we could play balls on the floor or over the top for Hammond to run on to, he'd still fook things up.

AyewJoking Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 but at least he stretches teams, rather than players like fryatt who are far too static Fair enough. I guess if dV is away long enough, people forget how poor he was - the same goes for Hammond.
WetFlannel Posted 1 December 2007 Posted 1 December 2007 Fair enough. I guess if dV is away long enough, people forget how poor he was - the same goes for Hammond. hopefully we will get rid of fryatt soon then
Fox92 Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 No. De Vries tries but he isn't as good as Cort, atleast Cort wins some headers.
teblin Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Of the players we have at the club just now the player I'd most like back is Hammond. He's never been nearly replaced and it is embarrassing how much we miss his pace and strength. Chambers has pace but he's not strong in the way Hammond is. Teams have to beware of Hammond. I know he's awkward and doesn't have the greatest ball control but which of our players does? Cort and Hume are hardly the masters of ball control. Right through, our team needs more pace - in defence, midfield and attack. Teams are relatively comfortable tactically against us because they know we don't have many people who can really threaten and hurt them. Sheehan is perhaps the only one who can threaten on a regular basis, as Southampton clearly realised and even their precautions couldn't neutralise him completely. Campbell is another when fit and Fryatt would be another were he faster. But really the only other player we have who is capable of hurting anyone constantly is Hammond because he has genuine pace and is so direct. He, more than anyone, might offer another target for Sheehan's left foot because if he got the right pass he's the only one apart from Chambers fast enough to get clear and the only one strong enough to hold off any attention. It's a sad state and one emphasised by a long-term City fan who on leaving the ground today, said this season's team was the worst he'd ever seen in City shirts. He might be fast enough to get clear, but when he does he can't control the ball and if by some freak he does he'll miss. ELVIS IS CRAP. He's not as good as akinbiyi. We need a good mobile tareget man. Not an sprinter who can't play football, i hope the guy proves me wrong but he's not in 2 years,
act smiley Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 I don't see how "strength" can be used as a positive for Hammond when he doesn't have the balance to ever use it.
Chimp Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 With Collins John, DJ Campbell, Fryatt and Hume we have a pretty decent strikeforce for this division. We just need to hold on and keep our nerve during this period where we have them out injured or they're struggling a bit. I'd much rather see players like Chambers and Sappleton given a chance in the first team than see Hammond or MDV.
rob-blue-fox Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 yes,at least he might try i bit harder than cort
gosfox Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Yes.... I dont think anyone feels MDV is the answer.... but it would be handy to have someone like him to throw on in the last 15 mins or so, to give the opposition something different to think about
Simon Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 but at least he stretches teams, rather than players like fryatt who are far too static Fryatt, static? You can accuse Fryatt of many things, but I don't think being static is one of them! Of all our strikers I think he is the one who makes the most intelligent runs! Back on topic... yes I'd have big Mark back, but then I wouldn't have loaned him out in the first place!
Raj Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 No. De Vries isnt the answer. Who is the answer then ? Somebody else. Sorry, just found this very funny!!!!! Hammond has been unlcky with his ankle injury this season,he must be dying to have a go under the cicumstances. But im sure DJ WILL prove to be a half decent striker once he gets going. Or am i just being Optimistic???

No I certainly wouldn't say Fryatt is static and yes he does make intellegent runs but as has been said many times before his lack of pace gives him a significant dis-advantage. He is also shrugged of the ball too easily but on his day is an excelllent finisher.
Fox You Forest Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Too be bluntly honest id rather have a one legged Mark De Vries than Carl Cort.

sting7 Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Mark De Vries was sat in the boxes at the leicester v cardiff game i saw him leave the stadium with a tidy little blonde piece so maybe he could be back soon
Jack Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 Mark De Vries was sat in the boxes at the leicester v cardiff game i saw him leave the stadium with a tidy little blonde piece so maybe he could be back soon How did he manage that one.

Jack Posted 2 December 2007 Posted 2 December 2007 He's got a massive massive cock. That might be the answer then
