davieG Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 In the recent player polls it seems rather telling that they are being topped by juniors, debutants, loanees, bit part players or death bed risers (see below) Sometimes these 3 players didn't even get a single vote!!!! Are the Senior pros pulling their weight or are people just biased? When are they going to make an impact? Or is this just too simplistic a view or just another crappy topic ( Merry Christmas to you ) November's Player of the Month Sheehan (36%) Southampton's MOM Hayes (23%) Sheehan (18%) King (16%) Burnley's MOM Fulop (47%) Cort (30%) WBA's MOM Kenton (34%) Ipswich's MOM Kaebi (Currently 54%)
Simi Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Interesting. Clemence has come in for a lot of stick lately. I do agree with some of it, but other bits have been way over the top. Far to many people coming in and slating him giving know reason as to why he has been so shit. Clemence was never going to set the world alight at Leicester, he's someone that likes to just join the midfield and the defence. Lately though Kenton has done that job leaving Clemence do to other jobs he might not of wanted to do, meaning he gets a little lost at times. At the start of the season people were always commenting on how good his partnership was with Weso, get those two paired again, he will improve. Kisnorbo and McAuley have a got away with a lot lately, what with the "awesome defensive record" we have/had. Mainly to do with having 6 or 7 defenders on the pitch at a time. Their distribution has certainly been questionable lately and it's something they really need to improve, because so often they're just wasting possession and putting us under needless pressure. These are the players that we are going to need to step up in the near future and take this team by the scruff of the neck.

I've always felt that a central defensive pairing of Kisnorbo and McAuley was never the most solid. Don't get me wrong, I think they're two good defenders but never felt they were a good partnership, always capable of a large misunderstanding (which happened a lot last season) and needing every now and then a little bit of direction here and there. I personally would prefer N'Gotty to start with Kisnorbo and McAuley competing for the second berth in the centre of defence.
BedsFox Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 I feel Clemence is more culpable in the "disappointment" stakes than either of the central defenders but then again he is in and out injured, never with a settled partner, never with wingers to outlet to etc etc I thought you could have added Hume to your list until 10 days ago, but he's turned it round..confidence is back..so lets hope the team gets settled and Clem in particular turns it round

Unfair I know because he still one of the best at the club but as I've said before that says more about the crap we have on our books then his ability.

Maybe a new poll should be set up after every game as to who the worst man of the match was so fans could judge overall who is under performing on a consistent basis
Daz.I Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Mcauley and Kisnorbo do play well consistently it just never gets noticed, they very rarely put a foot wrong Clemence has been playing shit but will come good.
Simi Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Mcauley and Kisnorbo do play well consistently it just never gets noticed, they very rarely put a foot wrong Erm, yes they have. Just because they win headers and tackles doesn't mean that they aren't making mistakes etc. Watch how many times they give the ball away at the next game you go to. Or how many times they choose the simple option and hoof if forwards. When you look at teams like West Brom it just shows the difference between a poor side and a good side.

And how many times attackers get round the back of McAuley, who loses his man altogether....(Hasselbaink, Tyson..)
Joe. Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 There's clearly reasons why our defence has all of a sudden started to ship the goals in. It's plain to see McAuley and Kisnorbo haven't been at their best in the last 5 games or so. They've both been making mistakes, and as usual their distribution lets them both down immensely at times. Before we want to start winning games again we need to get these two back on form again because on their day, these two can be some of the Championship's best defenders.
Geo V Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 Very few players could shine if the team isn't playing as a unit and if a team has had a change of management on three occasions before the halfway stage of the season is up. We have seen decent spells from all of the above and in particular the defenders who aren't the ones at fault here at the minute as they by and large are doing their jobs, its the strikers and midfielders that need to step up starting with the captain.
Koke Posted 12 December 2007 Posted 12 December 2007 I just think they are going through bad spells. And both at the same time unfortunately. I thought last season both McAuley and Kisnorbo were excellent, despite their short-comings (their contributions). With virtually no midfield whatsoever (Jarrett and Johnson are just as effective as two dustbins) they did rather well and often kept us in games we were destinied to lose and they did contribute with their faire share of goals at the other end as well. This season is a whole different story. Clemence and Weso have been more protective of our defence and during the Megson spell we played with 7 or 8 defenders on the field, so they have gotten the help and protection they needed from the midfield, despite our failure to do anything productive up front which isn't what they (our defenders) get paid for anyway. Their passings have been questionable lately, especially Kisnorbo. But we knew that last year, but I'm a bit surprised with McAuley in that deparment. He just seems to hoof every ball up to our strikers regardless. Whether its his fault completely or whether its the lack of movement and options from the rest of the team or maybe a combination of both I do not know. In terms of defending I got faith in both. In terms of passing and the constant hoofing I'm very concerned.
Thracian Posted 13 December 2007 Posted 13 December 2007 Familiarity breeds contempt in the case of McAuley and Kisnorbo. They've both dropped a brick or two this season but have essentially been as keen, committed and reliable as ever. Their passing lets them down but that's nothing new - it's just becoming noticed now. Clemence has been a let down. Had he not been our captain but some youngster looking to force his way into the side he'd have been dropped. I first had my concerns about him in the opening month of the season but reaction on here made me wonder if I were seeing his faults and missing his hidden depths. But nothing seems to have changed and I wonder if he's in some way disillusioned because the guy he signed for has gone and it's been "pass the parcel" with managers ever since. Whatever, as the guy who should be leading us onwards and upwards he's like a punctured blow-up doll....hard to get excited about and looking more of a flop each passing day.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 13 December 2007 Posted 13 December 2007 TBH i haven't seen enough games on TV but in the ones i have Kisnorbo and McAuley played well with out being brilliant, A good Centre Back doesn't get many accolades (spelling) any way becuase they just go about there business and its the errors people notice more than a good tackle or clerance.
FilboFox Posted 13 December 2007 Posted 13 December 2007 Yeah... these players aren't playing well... but its because of the rest of the shite that they have to play with... if they are surrounded by rubbish, then it does become VERY disheartening and they inevitably will play badly too.

So why is all this rubbish getting voted as MOM or Player of the Month, if what you say is true they should be coming out head and shoulders above all this rubbish. Good players don't play badly because the team has a few duffers in it they should be taking the lead and showing the rest what is possible.
