Suffolk_fox Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 I am sure the FA have weighed up how much money will flow INTO their coffers if we have a successful team. And it will be a damned sight more than a mere £6.5m... Pay less, get an idiot. Look at McLaren...

Sods Posted 14 December 2007 Posted 14 December 2007 Who gives a fook how much he gets paid.If he delivers success, he'll be worth it. Its only the same as what the players get for Christs sake. So if it all goes tits up, is this Capello going to be bothered. I dont think i will, a manager would never quit either unless they were stupid. Like McLaren they will need to be paid off. Like Davie G said this money could be put to a lot more use which would be more benificial in the long term. And what does he do, hardly working every day.

No he hardly will do what we call working - but its work to him, watching football games every week to find out the strengths of players etc etc... Lets get an English manager like Coppell who will be offered a damn sight less money than Capello, but would more than likely do a damn sight worse Capello. If this is the way people feel about it we mayaswel just get rid of the national team altogether, fook it,we aint never gona win anything anyway, eh? Save the money.

Not really no, in my view we should be proud of our country more then our club. My argument isn't really about him working its more to do with the fact, if it goes tits up...see above post. To be honest what pisses me of the most is teams that struggle to find money are nearly going ectinct. One day a team will, fans will lose their club. And then the FA will do fook all, but still chuck money at the next England Manager.

Does he really need to be the highest paid football manager in the world and why does he need 4/5 assistants including a goalkeeping coach FFS. These are supposed to be top professional footballers at clubs with some of the best facilities and support in the world. The Fa are supposed to be the guardians of English football not only in terms of developing skills but insetting standards of integrity and morality. These salaries are immoral.

We all know that the money the players, managers etc is an absoloute joke and I for one wholeheartedly disgree with it, but while clubs are willing to pay it, players/managers are going to accept it and theres not a lot we can do about it. We should be happy we have one of the best in the world, not some average plodder in charge again like McLaren. The place needs a shake-up, and its going to get it with Capello here. And if it goes tits up, then ca sera sera, they've done all they can in this instance to appoint the best, whatever will be, will be.

But, what can you do to change it? Not a lot so unfortunately, we're are (hopefully not) going to have to watch a man on millions, not justify his position, and theres nothing we can do about it. Great isnt it?!

We can't, but the FA could at least not perpetuate it by paying him more than anyone else and escalating the whole process to another level. Do you really think he couldn't have been got for less, the FA have delusions of grandeur and it's our money, yes English fans that are forking out for this, whilst they sit around on their own inflated salaries making mistake after mistake.

How do we know we didn't get him for less? I am sure he initially demanded more than 6.5m.. Who really would have been an alternative? This is an expensive game these days, and I for one am sick of having second rate managers in charge of our national team. Ron Greenwood, Glenn Hoddle, Kevin Keegan, Steve McLaren, they all did fook all. If we want a first rate manager we need to pay first rate wages. If I was to do a job in such a media spotlight with millions of people telling me how to do my job, I would want a lot of money too. Anyhow, as we should be doing with Ollie, lets judge him on long term results and not expect an instant miracle. Afterall, its a big job in front of both of them.

There is so much wrong with football to do and this sort of deal just adds to it, as I've said the FA are responsible for all football in England and frankly it is a mess, this shows they have totally lost touch with the grass roots. There's no point paying the England manager £6.5 plus all the extra's for his team if the development of future England players and English coaches is so poor. Anyway no one will make me change my mind because I see no justification what so ever for this obscene amount of money being given to one person.

The Reverend Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 Brian Barwick said in the press conference that the expected revenue for the next year (i think) is 1 billion, so Capellos wedge is a pretty small percentage of it. And also, we've lost out on 2 billion for missing out on the European Champs, so 30 million to most likely guarantee 2 billion plus for the World Cup is perfectly reasonable i think.

Would be interesting to know where the rest of the funds will be spent. Certainly not at grass roots level, thats for sure !
Fat Ron Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 well mclaren wasnt exactly on nothing was he? How much was Mclaren getting?
purpleronnie Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 We do have the richest league in the world so it sounds a lot but compared to what is earnt each year by the FA its not that much. We pay the highest because we have the most money, but its also one of the hardest jobs in football. I don't think any manager will make much of a difference.

Father Ted Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 How much was Mclaren getting? I heard that Mclaren was on about £4mil a year
Chandler Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 I like the way the FA shift the goalposts of public expectation. Ol Sven got his P45 because reaching the last eight of two WC's and one EC simply wasn't good enough. Capello gets an even bigger basic than Sven because, in the words of Adrian Bevington, 'we need the right man to ensure qualification to the major championships.' Why do I get this horrible feeling that come November 2009 the FA will be looking for a coach who can ensure 'a respectable finish in the qualification group for Euro 2012?'

I was fully expecting a conspiracy theory involving the Italians, Fabio Capello, the World Cup in 2010 and football hooliganism. You've changed.
