FA approve Capello move

Capello expected to be unveiled next week

The Football Association board have approved the appointment of Fabio Capello as England manager subject to the successful conclusion of contract negotiations.

Capello held talks with FA chief executive Brian Barwick on Wednesday after flying into London for talks over the vacant manager's post.

The former Juventus and Real Madrid boss emerged as the FA's top target after Jose Mourinho ruled himself out of the running for the England job.

The FA board discussed Capello's appointment via a conference call at lunchtime on Thursday and they have now approved his appointment as Steve McClaren's successor subject to his contract being signed.

Reports have suggested the FA are still deliberating the make-up of Capello's coaching team with the experienced coach looking to bring in all all-Italian coaching staff.

All issues are expected to be resolved in the next few days to allow Capello take up his role with England early next week.

FA Director of Communications Adrian Bevington said: "Discussions have continued throughout the day between The FA and Fabio Capello's advisors.

"The FA Board has also today approved Capello's appointment as England Manager subject to the successful conclusion of these contract negotiations. These will continue tomorrow.

£6.5 mill now -- the best paid coach in international football - Why???

Our FA sure have illusions of granduer, I suppose this enbles them to justify their own over the top contracts.

From Sky

Fabio Capello will become the best paid coach in international football should he sign a £6.5million-a-year contract to be the next England manager.

The Football Association board have approved a deal that will see Capello earn £4million annually after tax - the same as England captain John Terry's £130,000-a-week.

The size of the salary is an indication of the FA's determination to sign a 'world-class' coach after the failure to qualify for Euro 2008 cost them a reputed £12million.

The final details of the contract are expected to be hammered out on Friday, after which it will be announced that Capello will bring three or four fellow Italians with him for his coaching staff, including his trusted aide Franco Baldini as his assistant.

The 61-year-old has also expressed a desire to have English coaches as part of his set-up as well, and will decide who these should be at a later date.

Contrary to some reports however, Baldini will not fulfil the role of the FA's technical director.

FA director of communications Adrian Bevington said: "Discussions have continued throughout yesterday between the FA and Fabio Capello's advisors.

"The FA board has also approved Capello's appointment as England manager subject to the successful conclusion of these contract negotiations.

Successful

"I want to stress that there are no problems and that we are going through the necessary process to reach a successful conclusion."

The FA board approved the appointment through a conference call, although at least one member felt the decision could have waited until next week's full board meeting given the size of the contract.

FA chief executive Brian Barwick is keen to get the deal sewn up, however, and sees little to gain from delaying the decision.

Barwick is also comfortable with Capello's plans for his coaching staff, especially since the Italian himself proposed having English coaches as part of his set-up.

There will not be an immediate announcement of who these might be - candidates suggested have included Stuart Pearce and Alan Shearer - as it will be Capello who chooses them.

Baldini, who has worked with Capello at his former clubs Real Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus, said: "Capello will be England coach for sure.

"I understand the FA has, in principle, said 'yes' to me doing this job as well. If I do not, I think Capello will still be England coach, but maybe he will be a little less comfortable."

Lets not berrate him. It's hardly his fault, the FA have A) made themselves looks like mugs for a good few years now by paying managers too much, it's not Cappelos fault they're dumb and B) It's no Cappelos fault he's been offered that much.

All these English managers whinging about us appointing a foreigner are doing my nut in. First it was Coppell, then Southgate and now Ince. They never suggest anyone other than Harry Redknapp.

The English managers around at the moment just aren't up to it. Imagine the status of any English manager who had Capello's record! Let's learn from Keegan and McClaren.

I have no big problems with Cappello, as you say who else is there but £6.5 mill plus the salaries for 5 more ( 4 mafia and one twat (Pearce/Shearer)) I find indefensible.

Thats annoying me aswell.

Don't these people realise that the English Style of management is out-dated?

English managers all have 2 fatal flaws.

1. They pick thier mates, Favorites or the most over-hyped players.

2. They play players out of position to accomodate favorites.

Not to mention the style of football we've played for god knows how many years, The English spirit and pride or whatever isn't enough anymore.

F.A are mugs.

No manager is worth that kind of money surely? Can't understand why the reported £4m per year wasn't enough.

I presume it was always £4mill but that's after tax hence the real cost to the FA is £6.5 mill.

When we can string two wins together I might even start to notice/care what Southgate and others might be doing ;)

After all the work he does especially at Christmas time???

Who gives a fook how much he gets paid.

If he delivers success, he'll be worth it.

Its only the same as what the players get for Christs sake.

Well I care for one, some of that money could be used to develop future England players rather than lining the pockets of these people it's just obscene and offering the players up as justification is as hollow as an FA Directors brain.

They have to pay enough to stop a top side poaching him half way through a campaign. Look what happened to Scotland & N.I.

He's only on the same as John Terry.

Another thing, the money on offer at clubs goes up obviously the higher the leagues you go to. Premiership managers get x a year, well Capello should get more as International is higher than Premiership level, and managing England is probably the biggest (hardest) job in world football.

Therefore he should be paid top dollar. You pay peanuts, you get monkeys (although in Englands and McLarens case,if you pay top dollar you still get a monkey).

Theres no doubting his pedigree, if he fails then its an impossible task, therefore he should be paid well.

And using players is a perfectly viable comparison. The players in Englands starting 11 are probably on average about 80k a week i'd say, Capello is now their leader and the higher the position, the higher you get paid.

You pay their wages. If you dont like it you know what to do.

Kermit the frog in charge. Laaaaarv'ley!

Nah in all seriousness, Capello is a quality manager and has a good record of success wherever hes been. Good luck Fabio, as long as the sons of bitches in the media leave him to do his job.
