Suffolk_fox Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 McLaren Racing are one of my customers, I am off to Woking to see them this coming week. I like them almost as much as the Harry Potter prop studios in Leavesden......
Brainy Posted 1 March 2008 Author Posted 1 March 2008 Honda could be decent this year, with Barrichello and Button (although I don't rate Button and Wurz would be better) I found something on the batracer homepage, you know the real word F1 news box thing.. It said judging by the testing this winter they would be the 8th/9th best car. Ferrari McLaren Williams Renault/BMW Renault/BMW Red Bull Toro Rosso Toyota/Honda Toyota/Honda Force India Super Aguri
isaidno Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 The new Honda is nearly as bad as the last one, about 2.5 seconds off of the pace
Brainy Posted 1 March 2008 Author Posted 1 March 2008 McLaren made F1 rivals Williams a big offer for driver Nico Rosberg last year but it was rejected immediately, team boss Sir Frank Williams has revealed. Williams said: "It was an offer of majestic proportions, but it was never ever discussed or entertained. "Why give away the crown jewels? Why improve the car by one second and give away half a second with the driver?" McLaren eventually signed Finland's Heikki Kovalainen from Renault in mid-December to partner Lewis Hamilton. Rosberg, the son of Finland's 1982 world champion Keke, had earlier signed an extension of his Williams contract to take in the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Williams added: "I was a little surprised he was happy to sign to stay. I feared he would go to McLaren." 606: DEBATE Was Rosberg right to reject McLaren's advances? Rosberg, 22, said: "I'm happy where I am. If the money is okay, and everybody is happy, then a contract still means something. "I know Frank has never thought of letting me go, so it makes me feel good to be wanted." Williams engineering director Patrick Head has revealed that the team allowed Lewis Hamilton to slip through its grasp in late 2004.Head told reporters that Hamilton and his father Anthony had approached Williams after a disagreement with McLaren three years ago. The Williams co-founder says a deal with Hamilton fell through because the squad's then engine partner BMW declined to fund the young Briton's junior career as McLaren had. The Hamiltons had not been keen on McLaren's plan to keep Lewis in the Formula 3 Euro Series for a second season - although he subsequently swept to a dominant title in the 2005 championship. "They rang up and said 'Can we come and see you?'," Head was quoted as saying by The Guardian. "And they came in and said 'Ron Dennis has dropped us'. "We were with BMW at the time and I think Frank (Williams) rang (BMW's) Mario Theissen and said 'Look, this guy looks as if he could be pretty good and he has come to us saying can we help him?' "And I think Mario said they weren't prepared to provide any support and we weren't in a position financially where we could finance his racing. "So much to Frank's annoyance, he could have had Lewis in a Williams." Frank Williams also revealed that McLaren attempted to sign Nico Rosberg to partner Hamilton after its split with Fernando Alonso last year. But Williams said he had no intention of letting his lead driver go. "It was never a thought we entertained," Williams was quoted as saying by Reuters. "We had an offer of majestic proportions but it was never ever discussed. "Why would we give away the crown jewels? "Why bother improving the car by one second if we then give away half a second with the driver?"
billabob Posted 2 March 2008 Posted 2 March 2008 Hows the work going bob? Really well thanks, job is really good and being around f1 cars all day is awsome! We had last years car show up with Sutil and Liuzzi a few weeks back so is all rather exciting for me! Roll on Australia though, the tension at work is getting rather high!

You going to fly-over to watch the race, or just meeeting up with all the work-mates somewhere at silly-o-clock to watch the race ON TV? What are your expectations for the race? Get the two cars home in one piece?
Stuliasz Posted 2 March 2008 Posted 2 March 2008 Having read one of the previews, it seems as if the new Honda has been performing worse in pre-season testing than last season's. Think Button is going to have his work cut out yet again.

Get the two cars home in one piece? Will watch the race at home on tele but quali will be watched from work as im here anyway. Expectations are to indeed get both cars home but really aiming for Q2 at least and some guys have put bets on of points in the first race but thats a bit unsure at the moment. I would say beat Honda, Super Aguri, maybe Torro Rosso as well. To be honest though no-one is really sure how we are going to do although pre season testing times were very encouraging so will just have to wait and see.

The Stig Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 I really can't wait for the news season. Six months is a long time to go without F1, and with Leicester just being themselves I'm looking forward to having another sport to be passionate about. I just hope that if this years Honda is another flop Jenson gets out ASAP and doesn't hang around wasting his career. He's still a very good driver at the moment, but he can't afford to hang around if this years car is another woeful one.

I cant see Alonso being THAT far up the top of the grid?? 39 degrees in Melbourne on Friday We'll see, I think he may spring a surprise. If not it will be Kimi, don't think Hamilton will pole it, too much expectation. I think Hamilton wil finish on the podium somewhere however. Anyone mad enough to watch it all unfold Live?!
