Chromophobia Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 ..but does Ian Holloway have the tactical nous to get us up the table the rest of this season and aiming for promotion next season? It's great having a balanced side and all, and so much emphasis has been placed on getting better players in, but they still need the know-how from the manager right? thoughts's?
Joe. Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 Who knows yet? I'd give it a few more games to make a proper decision.
AyewJoking Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 fook it, listen and laugh  Sounds like Barber when Leicester concede a goal.

Look at what he did at Plymouth, i think that says it all. Who really, are a small club compared to some that aren't as high as they are.

ARE YOU FORGETTING IT'S A 3YEAR PLAN cause it seems to me 90%off people have done. give the man fricken chance. it'll be people like you that will want him gone as soon as the results go bad. HAVING A NEW MANAGER EVERY 6MONTHS is not the answer why do our fickle fans think this is the case. we'll never see the good times come back if you keep changing the manager especially as once again more players will have to be got rid of and others brought in to the new managers liking so the vicious circle will continue. look where plymouth were before ollie left and them selling there players again. IN THE PLAY-OFFS so why can't he with us
Rocky Dennis Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 fook it, listen and laugh  That wouldve been even funnier if the commentator had got the goalscorer wrong! I remember Jack Charlton doing a Leicester game on TV once, and he got Neil Lewis mixed up with Lee Philpott! Tickled me anyway
Thracian Posted 15 January 2008 Posted 15 January 2008 ..but does Ian Holloway have the tactical nous to get us up the table the rest of this season and aiming for promotion next season? It's great having a balanced side and all, and so much emphasis has been placed on getting better players in, but they still need the know-how from the manager right? thoughts's? There are great tactical managers. People who could get the best out of good players with a disciplined approach. Sir Alf Ramsey, Don Revie, Jose Mourinho. Others, like Brian Clough or MON, have showed they can get something special out of almost anything or anyone. A third group are adept at getting good players together, creating a good atmosphere and letting them play - Kevin Keegan with Newcastle, Sir Matt Busby, Sir Bobby Robson, Joe Mercer and even, to a great extent Bill Shankly. Holloway, I suspect, is the latter. He sounds like a motivator but even the greatest motivators can wear down. However if he creates an atmosphere whereby people want to play for him and achieve things then that can be a massive part of the battle, especially if the ingredient of competition is always there. Certainly you can have too much theory. Theory is all very well when it works but theorists often have their pet beliefs and if they come unstuck there's often no plan B if you're not the motivating or happy atmosphere type. Gary Megson may well be that type though I'll stand to be proved wrong.
